You could but you are better off using a firewire card. If you don't have one, you will need a firewire card and cable. You can get both at a reasonable price if you buy a ADS Pyro firewire card. It also comes with Ulead Video Studio (which is handy for DV).

Hello
There is a guide here on this website on how to do this using an ATI All-In-Wonder card. The steps might be very slightly different since the 9000 All-In-Wonder is very new and probably comes with perhaps an updated version of the software but it should have come with SOME sort of capture software that you can use and, as I said, there is a guide on this site so perhaps you should give it a read.
You will find the guide over on the left hand side of the screen under the HOW TO section entitled CAPTURE.
Good Luck!

its not an "all in wonder card" or does vivo mean nowadays the same as all in wonder???

Hello
Well ...
ATI always called their video in video out cards ALL IN WONDER
I thought the new 9000 was also called ALL IN WONDER
I'd be surprised if they decided to call it VIVO instead
Anyways, either name, I bet the software is similar to what all the older ALL IN WONDER cards use. If so you can probably follow the guide on this site though I wouldn't be surprised if it is an updated version of the software that might look slightly different. So the guide might not be followed to the T but still give it a look see.
I mean you did get a manuel and software with this video card, yes? Have you even looked at it and read it?
Anyways, if you didn't get capture software with the card (white box version maybe?) then I'm sure you can download the software from the ATI website

I'm sorry to sound RUDE but stuff like this is so friggin' annoying.
Just went to the ATI website.
Here is a link: http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/aiw9000pro/index.html
The above is a link for the ALL IN WONDER 9000 PRO
Here is another link: http://www.ati.com/support/products/pc/radeon9000/aiw9000promanuals.html
This second link (again on the ATI website) has two manuels available for on-line reading (Adobe PDF Acrobat format). One is an install/setup guide and the other manuel is ... get this one ... a guide on HOW TO CAPTURE WITH THE INCLUDED SOFTWARE
Like friggin' DUH man.
Get a clue and stop wasting our time!

P.S.
The ALL IN WONDER 9000 PRO is the only card ATI makes that offers video capture while using the 9000 model number. So either you have this card or you are 101% clueless. -
It may be that the card isn't an All in Wonder. ATI have produced the odd VIVO card using diferent chipsets. The All in Wonder range has a TV tuner built in, the VIVO cards don't, they simply have video in and video out (hence VIVO).
The card should come with the ATI MultiMedia Centre (MMC) software which will allow you to capture. This assumes you installed it (or even got it with the card) and didn't just install the drivers and not bother with the MMC software. Alternatively, you can capture with something like VirtualDub. If you didn't get the software, download MMC version 7.7 from the ATI website, there are later versions but there are issues with them. Use S-video to capture as the quality is better than composite.
Once you have captured the video (in mpeg or avi format), you will need to turn it into VCD, SVCD or DVD format for burning. there are lots of free tools that you can get but from the posts on here it seems lots of people have trouble. I use Ulead DVD workshop and it simply works perfectly every time. Ulead DVD Factory has less features but will still do what you want it to do.
Good luck -
well i think i will have solved the problem with the video. but when u see a triple cinch cable (s-video and 2 audio) on one side only the s-video fits into my pc and the 2 audio dont. so do i have to buy an adapter joining both to one then allowing it to fit my audio in on my computer. could somebody give me a quick overview of how i have to connect my DV-cam with my pc/ video/ tv- card??? i would appreciate it. the capturing itself wont be problem i hope...
but the connection....
thx

can nobody help me with this issue? its my last problem and them im done... the guide here about the all in wonder cards wont help me if i dont know how to connect my dv-cam with my pc without using firewire as i said before!
pls helpkazaa rules... -
On your camera I assume you have an S-Video output (4 pin mini DIN) and three phono (or cinch or RCA depending on what country you are in) sockets. These sockets will almost certainly be coloured yellow, red and white. To connect the video signal from your camera to your pc connect either the S-Video connector to the similar S-Video connector on your ATI VIVO card if you wish to use S-Video or connect the yellow phono socket to the yellow composite video socket on the ATI VIVO. S-Video gives better quality so use that if you have a cable. You need to use one or the other.
The red and white phono sockets are left and right channel audio. these need to be connected to the line in socket on your soundcard so you will need a cable with twin phono plugs on one end and a 3.5mm stereo jack plug on the other (these are usually supplied with VIVO cards, sound cards, portable CD and minidisc players, etc).
Once connected, open up your audio mixer software control and ensure that the line in is selected as a record source and the level is set about midway. You will also need to select whichever video connector you have chosen to use but how you do this will depend on what software you are using. Under certain circumstances, VirtualDub switches off all audio inputs when you start it. If you are using VD and this happens, all you need to do is start VD and then start your mixer and reset everything. Minimise the mixer and it should all work. -
won't work because the cam (sony trv30e) only has one A/V output... which would be no problem if i could find a jack on the web which combines my audio left and right into one...???

If your cam only has a single RCA out jack for audio (mono sound) then you can still use the stereo cord mentioned above along with a Y adapter because I highly doubt you will find a cord with a single RCA jack input.

Here are a couple of links to the RADIO SHACK website showing the type of item(s) you will need:

This is the Y adapter to use with the cord above if your cam only has a single (mono) RCA out audio jack.

Ignore all references in other posts to Radio Shack. Radio Shack is only in the US, although it was what used to be called Tandy in the UK (until that closed down). Maplin is your best bet (www.maplin.co.uk, order online or find the location of your nearest shop) if you need any cables or connectors. The fact that Maplin has a far greater range of products that are much better quality and considerably cheaper is the main reason why Tandy disappeared. Unfortunately for those in the States, Maplin haven't got out there yet......
(NTSC and no Maplin, it must be hard living in a deprived country.......) -

Doesn't your country often cut films in the cinema and then cut them even more for home video (including DVD)?
Screw you and being deprived!

P.S.
I bet your video collection includes some NTSC releases BECAUSE of the censorhip issue. Be honest now!"The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci
