  1. I am having problem copying the DAT file from this particular VCD to my harddrive. When I ran VCDGearGUI software and tried to pull the DAT file directly from my CDROM, it took forever and finally the system bumped on me. Do you guys have any idea what is actually happening ? I can read/play any other VCDs on this machine. Also this problem VCD can only play on a certain DVD player. Thanks.

  2. Tell us some more about this disk. Did you make it, buy it, or get it from someone you know. What software wrote it, if you know.
I made dozens of VCDs with NTI that work great on my DVD standalone, but cannot be ripped. (Eventually I did sorta find out why. NTI needs MPG1 System files to make VCDs with instead of VCD compliant MPG1s, which in this program produces unintelligible garbage on the screen)

Perhaps there is some of this going on here.
The only way I've found is to play it in my standalone and capture it manually, as if it were a tape.

  3. Thanks for reply mijman, actually a friend of mine bought this vcd from one of the asia countries. It works on his DVD player but can't be played on my DVD player nor any computers.
What is NTI by the way ? Thanks.

  4. This must be some kind of copy protection scheme (artificially put an error on the disk so copy won't work).
Use Nero to do a disc to disc copy with the option "ignore errors). Your target disc will be definitely readable by your CD-ROM drive and you can go from there.
    Been there, done that.

  5. Hi ktnwin, thanks for replying. I did try using the nero to copy the cd. However this process took so long, was that normal ? Anyway what version of nero you were using. Thank you.
