  1. Is VirtualDub only to be used with a DV capture card like an ATI, or has it been succesful with FireWire....I am trying to use a lower loss codec like HUFFYUV (allegedly) but I can't get it to work (VDub) with my DV cam...

Side note, if that can't work, any other choice besides the default Microsoft DV codec when capturing with Adobe Premier....

Sadly, VirtualDub does not support firewire capture.

I know Sony has a firewire driver for DV captures. What brand of camera are you using?
    Hello.

  5. I have a JVC and a Samsung....looking to get more 'lossless' AVIs via FireWire....the default of Premiere is the Microft DV codec, and I think that is why I get non-professional looking MPEG2s after I render them in Vegas Video. Hoping to get HUFFYUV in there instead of Microsoft..I know you may say try TMPGENC frameserve, but I got the same results going from Premiere into TMPGENC, Vegas is just so much smarter and quicker than Premier...

You can not change the form of the data coming from a DV source. It is already compressed in the camera to DV.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

    hi average joe,

maybe you can try and uninstall the MS DV codec first. Make sure you've
    completely uninstalled it !!

Then, install any other DV code ie, pannasonic or mainconcept or canopus.
But, don't install more than one, else you'll probably confuse the DV apps
    and have other issues.

Try the above and see what happens. Good luck

    @ starbuck..

try finding the direcoty where it's located and see if there is an un-install.
If not, then it's probably part of the OS install, and I'm not sure how to
    do that.

You could also try looking under Control Panel, under
"Add/Remove programs" and see if MS DV codec is listed in their. If it is,
then just remove it. THEN, install the other DV codec you're interested in.

    Good luck.
