I see from the DVDR specs that DVD-MP3 is not a common format and not very many can play these. Can you get around this by using mpeg 2 audio, similar to some of the VCD templates and still put audio files that are about the same size as MP3 onto the DVDR. If it works, that equates to like 40 hours of music.

I have used mp2 audio for dvds and they work great! No problems here. So if your going to use mp2 audio for dvds, go ahead, I don;t see any problems with it. Better than using pcm audio because with mp2 audio, it is compressed allowing you to increase the bitrate for the video.

If I get you correct then yes, mpeg1 layer2 (.mp2) audio can be merged with your video stream (.m2v) to create a compliant DVD, SVCD and VCD mpeg. Just be carefull of the samplerate (khz). If it's straight music you want, then leave it as .mp3, and play it on your favourite player. It's only data dude.......oskiweewee

MP2 is not supported on many DVD players. Most support AC3, DTS, and PCM only. That's mainly an Asian audio format.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

MP3 will NOT work on most dvd players, my dvd player (akai adv-8000) plays MP3 CDs quite nicely, but won't touch data DVDs.

You can convert your audio to MP2, and then using BeSweet or something convert them to an AC3 file, i find converting MP2->AC3 keeping the bitrate the same, keeps the file size almost EXACTLY the same (i think the biggest difference i've seen is around 1k).

and that way you can even do multichannel or multiangle audio

If your player does SVCD's, then it usually does mp3's/mp2's . My wifes best friend dropped over $200 on a DVD player that only played commercial DVD's. She took it back for a $48 Apex that plays everything.

Yes, if your player plays VCD, it will most likley play .mp2, however the DVD authoring program you're using most support it as well. I have used it on my system with a bitrate of 224/kbps with great success

I have tried converting my vcd's to DVD and the audio keeps going out of sync on the DVD.

Would be grateful if someone could assist. I have tried IFOedit and TMPG dvd author. I not not converted the audio file.

    Thanks.

  11. Most DVD players play MP2 audio fine from a DVD disc. I believe it's just a few dodgy American ones that can be fussy. All European/Asian ones will work fine.

  12. MP2 audio is a requirement on all PAL region players. It is optional on all NTSC region players. As several posters said, if the player supports (S)VCD it supports mp2 audio and so it is unlikley to object to a DVD with mp2.

However, I think the original poster was asking if you can use ONLY mp2 audio on a DVD-r (no video), in the same way that mp3 audio is used on CD in many DVD players, for audio only. I can't say I have ever tried it but I doubt it would work quite like that. It shouldn't be difficult though to author a DVD slide show or just a bunch of menus with mp2 audio and a different track or tracks for each one.

Actually, I was referring to an actual video stream but using mp2 audio with it, then you get a compressed format for audio but mux it with low bitrate video (a blank screen or something), then put it to dvdr like a bunch of little movies. That way, you get around the non-compatibility with mp3 that dvd players seem to have but you can get a ton of music on a dvdr.

Concept. is similar to the audio xvcd templates in the tools section of this site, but for DVDR.
