i am trying to back up 007 die another day but when i rip it with dvd decripter the files don't play properly. the movie is jittery and seems to be interwoven with the extras on the disc. i have tried to rip just the movie but the same thing happens. does anybody know why and has anybody had the same problem?

Yep.
The R2 special edition has an interesting VOB structure.
The easiest way of doing it (I think) is rip the second movie selection and use IFOedit to only use the following cell ID's:
4 5 7 8 10 11 13 14 16 17 19 20 22 23 25 26 28 29 30 32 33 35 36 38 39 41 42 44 45 47 48 50 51 53 54 56 57 59 60 and 62.
Easy when you know how !! -
I used smartripper too, but I still had to remove the unnecessary cell ID's.
Assuming you've got the same version of DAD as me (why am I the only one who ever says what version they've got ?!), which version of the film did you rip, then ?
When SmartRipper fires up, there is more than one "copy" of the film listed. One has got a sort of seamless branching thing going on, one has just the film but the cell ID's bounce about a bit (the one I described above), and I didn't look at the others because I was able to do the biz and I didn't want to spend too long on it since I'd bought the damn thing in the first place and think other people should to the same...
Your experience of DAD and Smartripper seems to be different to mine - care to share which version you've got with the rest of the forum ? I've only ever seen one version here in the UK which makes me wonder where yours came from or if there's a new version of SmartRipper out there that I don't know about ! (I am using 2.28 ) -
I am not using smart ripper i am using dvd decripter.
all this cell id stuff is a but over my head but i will have a go and let you know the result.
cheers. -
I suggest you look at one of the numerous IFOedit guides available here, at doom9.org and IFOedit.com, because it can get a bit hairy.
To get you on the right track, you're looking to opening the first VOB file of the set, and then clicking on the VOB EXTRAS button. Then it guides you through the process of deciding what streams and cell ID's you require.
IFOedit will then create a second set of VOB files that only contain the parts you have specified. Open this set and correct the VTS VECTORS and re-encode / transcode to make it fit onto a blank.
As I say, it's easy... when you know how !! -

Ah, full disc copy - that explains it.
I've got no interest in all the extra commentaries and the like with respect to the main film - I do enjoy them, but most of the time when I want to see a film it's the film I'm interested in, so in my application I did just the movie and the forced subtitles for things like the location "subtitles". On the rare occasions I want to check out the extras, I'll use my original.
If you ever fancy a laugh, try and do just the movie and you will see what we're on about...
