  1. When converting an AVI to MPEG after around 1 hour the image freezes on the screen. When you play back the converted file as expected the image freezes after an hour but the sound carries on and is fine.

The original AVI plays all the way through on Windows Media Player

    Any ideas

Try checking the AVI for bad frames using Virtual Dub. If that is not successful, use the Source Range function in TMPGEnc to continue encoding at a point past where the video freezes. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with an AVI that was slightly over an hour long. There were no bad or missing frames. I split the AVI at a good break point before the spot where it froze, then re-encoded the smaller segment. Worked fine. Then rejoined the two .mpg files (editing out the bad segment in the first .mpg).
    Hope this helps...

  4. I just finished doing almost this EXACT thing.....

I had an .avi that I couldn't repair. I encoded up to the freezing point, skipped that point and encoded the rest, then joined the mpegs. I think I lost only like 10 frames so it's almost un-noticeable unless your eyes are glued to the TV while you're watching it!
