First Attempt at VCD Burn

I am trying to burn an .avi to vcd format. I first converted .avi to .mpg using TMPGENC, using NTSCFILM format. I guess that is MPEG-1. Then I tried burning with a demo of Nero 5.4 That did not work. Next I let Nero encode the file itself. That did not work. I am following the instructions of this web site. I have a Sony DVP S530D standalone DVD player. The error I get is C 13:00. I supposed this means it knows a disc is there, but it doesn't recognize it. I am burning onto CD-RW using a sony CR140E something or other. Burning at 4X. Please help.

hey i'm having problems too as in "nero 5.5 vcd menu" post...

but for your problem try don't use NTSCFILM, just use NTSC. and depending on if you're doing vcd or svcd, just load the default settings for it. that's all i can think of. letting nero do the encode itself is buggy...
