    Hi!

Does anyone knows how can I send a DV file to a Philips standalone DVD writer usind Adobe Premiere?

I connect the computer to the DVDR with a firewire port and I try to export the file in Adobe Premiere, but the DVDR can't get the signal. How can I do the file export?

    Thanks!

    Hello

I'm not 100% positive about what I am about to say but if I recall the Philips stand alone DVD recorder has a (on purpose) built-in "limitation" in that the DV in will only work from a DV/Digital8 camcorder.

So you might want to try outputting from the computer (via the DV FireWire port) to your DV/Digital8 camcorder ... recording the output onto a tape. Then hook the camcorder directly into the Philips stand alone DVD recorder and play your tape back in the camcorder and record to the Philips stand alone DVD recorder.

I'm wanting to do this myself and from what I understand - it will work. But you need to have a dedicated DV output on your computer (a video card with DV output specifically designed for DV camcorders and such). You can't just use a general firewire port that you can connect any device to, it has to be dedicated for DV use only. I hope I am right about this, because I want to do the same thing.

    Hi!

    Thanks for your help!
    ...But I'm confused ...

Before I can send the file to the DVDR I've to code it to MPEG? Or the DVDR do this?

Does anyone knows what's the best way to send it (driver, application...)?

    Thanks,
    Su

You need a video card on your computer with a DV output. Most DV video cards should have the software to input/output DV (don't know about Adobe Premiere, I don't use it). Connect the firewire cable between the video card and the DVD recorder. Output the file in DV form to the recorder and it will convert it to MPEG2 as it enters the recorder. And please let us know if it works (some of the stand-alone DVD recorders supposedly won't accept a DV input from a computer, but I don't understand why - a DV signal is a DV signal regardless of whether it comes from a camcorder or a computer).

I have a Phillips DVD Recorder and I shoot DV which I then edit with Pinnacle 8 / Ulead or whatever. After I'm done, I render back to
"Camera" Then I take my camera and hook it up to the FireWire port in the front left of my Phillips and set it to CAM 1. Pop a blank DVD+R to the recorder hit play on cam and record on the Phillips. You don't need any special video card with "FW out" if yoou output to your camera from your video editing program. Firewire is two way communication.

I have not tried from the computer directly, so I don;t know if that will work or not. Remember that the phillips will only record video and not any extras such as menus.
