  1. Hi,
I've just installed my long awaited DRU500AX 2.0c
It's on secondary master on a ASUS P4S8X, 512mb RAM, P4 2.4, ATI RADEON 9700pro, Win XP PRO.

First porblem I found is that if I set the controller on "DMA if Available" I'm not able to burn even a CD. Under Nero I get always the same errror: "Communication Failed", normally it happens from 1 to 5 min of burning, on every kind of support. I resolved by tunrning on PIO Mode4 but I can't understand Why I have to do that when with my old burners (HP DVD200i and LG 4020B) All worked Fine. I've updated my system with all the latest drivers with no results.
Do I have to change the IDE cable? The original one is too short for me... I have a big tower, which kind of cable do you suggest (33, 66, or what?)

Second Problem is that when I verify the CD burning at 24x with Nero I get always some "unaccessible file" errors, while if I try to open the unaccessible file I have no problems. I tried to burn on a CD RW at 4x and I got no errors.

Third Problem...better... this is a question.
    HAS DRU500AX OVERBURNING CAPABILITIES?
I've tried in every way to overburn a CD with 707Mb of data but I always get the Error msg "Invalid Parameter" !!! Nero says that DRU can overburn but I'm not able to do that.

Can you help me? I'm really disappointed, I've waited 5 months for this drive and now that I had it I'm thinking to reinstall the LG that gave me no problems at all, doing always is work, slooowly, but olways finishing it.

    Thanks

P.S. Now I've installed it on a P4 2.4, QDI Platinix MB, WIN2000 PC and it works very well.... uses DMA and doesn't give me any kind of problem with the exception of the overburning. But a friend of mine has the DRU on an a PC similar to mine and it works like a dream ..the only difference are WIN2000 and an ASUS P4S8X-X instead of P4S8X): I can't understand this strange behaviour...
    Regards

  3. I have the same problem, it won;t biurn on DMA, it;s not an OS thing, but a hardware problem (obviously that extra x makes all the difference with your mates MB)! me and my mate bough on each, and I installed both, his works okay, and mine only in PIO mode too, which is annoying, as it takes too much CPU usage, and seesm a lot slower (won;t even read a CD in DMA mode, let alone write one)! Anyone else got a solution to this?

  4. Probably your motherboard doesn't like the drive in DMA mode. If available, when the system boot-up (POST, before going in Windows) check what the motherboard is reporting. You might see it as PIO and everything else is in DMA.

    No, it won't overburn.
