  1. Hi there,

I cut a clip from a vcd dat file into a smaller dat file, I dont have the original source now, but when I tried to convert the cut clip( dat file) into mpeg using TMPEnc it says,
"File mus.dat can not open, or unsupported"

then i tried thru VCDGearGUI , while converting it says,

    "Assertion failed: Create process(NULL,argv.c_str(),NULL,NULL,TRUE,0,0,0,&si ,&pi), file D:\VCDGeargUI\thread.cpp, line93"

I want to ultimately burn a vcd using Nero, but getting to convert the dat to mpeg is the main problem, pls help.

    Thanx,
    Neo

  3. It's true that if you have a .dat file and you rename it to a .mpg file you'll be able to play it in your favorite media player....but it won't be compliant for use on a (S)VCD. You have to use a program called VCDEasy....it's a GREAT Program. It has an option under the tools tab that lets you "remove the riff headers" from a .dat file, thus making it a TRUE and compatible MPEG!!!!

    Hope that helps!

  4. Hi,

Thanx , but I even renamed the dat to mpg and tried using VCDEasy and while opening the cut clip it says ,

"mus.mpg analyse failed : VCDEasy only accepts/analyzes multiplexed program streams. If this file is a working mpeg file, check first that it is not an elementary video or elementary audio stream only, as a multiplexed program stream( video AND audio, or MPEG still) is required"

    Any ideas? Pls help!

    Thanx,

  5. Hi,

In continuation with previous message, I even used the mpeg convert tool of VCDEasy and while opening the dat file it gave me the following error:

" cdxa2mpg.exe execution failed: unknown chunk id[QD] encountered (The file is not a mpeg file with Riff header [.dat file])"

    Pls help

  6. The only thing I can thing of is "How do you "CUT" a .DAT file into a smaller .DAT file????

I would have no idea how to do that. Whatever you did, you probably damaged the file!

Try using the cdxa2mpg tool in VCDEASY on the ORGIGNAL .DAT file, and then when it's converted to mpeg you can split THAT!!!

    Good luck!!

I second that opinion. You could try some of the various MPEG fixing programs around (can't think of one off top of my head, but I amsure Tools section will have them - otherwise, let Google be your firend.

It is simply twice as big as it needs to be.
