Just demux your mpg file into seperate video & audio files, re-encode the audio at 48000 HZ, then assemble it in sizzle. You can also re-encode the video all day long, but there is no need to.

"just demux your mpg file into seperate video & audio files, re-encode the audio at 48000 HZ,"
can you explain what programs you use to "demux" and "re-encode"- can you explain this a little clearer please?

Can you tell me what program (osx) you used to re-encode the audio to 48000 hz and what format it is- I burned a bin>mov>DVD and everything worked except no audio?
Please answer!

First demux your .MPG file. There are many programs out there to do this, however I prefer "Extractor" http://denisx.dyndns.org/extractor/ . Set it to extract M2V & MP2 files & let it go. When it's finished you should have a M2V file (Video) & a MP2 file (Audio). Now we open up our trusty copy of ffmpeg http://homepage.mac.com/major4/ (I assume this is what you are using, seeing as how you posted this in the ffmpeg forum). Select your MP2 (Audio) file as the input, then set your output to wherever you wish. Seeing as how we only need to encode the audio, select "PASSTHROUGH" from the drop-down video codec menu in the Video tab of the application. Next be sure to de-select "Encode Video" to the right of that same menu. Now we move on to the Audio tab of the application. Select MP2 from the drop-down audio codec menu. The "Audio Bitrate" is flexible, however I would not go below 224 as the setting. "Sampling" should always be set to 48000 hz when working on any DVD project. The last option to select is "Invert". You are now ready to press the "Encode" button at the bottom. Once it has finished with the audio, you can open up "Sizzle" http://thegoods.ath.cx/~hmason/sizzle/ . Select your M2V file as your video source and your newly created MP2 file as the audio source. All that is left is for you to name your disk & perhaps add your own custom chaptering info before you press the "Create Disk Image" button. After sizzle finishes up, you will have a ".img" image file that can be burnt through Toast or even Apple's own Disk Copy application.
And that, my friend, is where babies come from... wait, what were we talking about again?

Dammit I'm still getting the same problem, My DVD's work fine in VLC and in DVD Player but my stupid standalone wont play the sound, maybe its an issue with the player or how the speakers are hooked up. Ahhh I would really like to be able to watch all my stuff on the big screen without buying a new dvd player. Anyway thanks for the reply and I'm going to go try these on my friends DVD player I bet every single one of them works fine.

Burning at 1X speed with Nero might solve the problem!

Thanks for the suggestion P, but Nero is a **shudders** windows app, & won't do him much good. To hear that your stand-alone player won't play the sound makes me think that your audio sampling is still not 48000 Hz. Try downloading "MPGinfo" http://www.sbpr.a.se/systemjammers/mpeginfo/ and see what it says about your audio, by dragging & dropping it inside the application window. If it tells you that the audio is in fact sampled at 48000 Hz, you will know for a fact that it is your stand-alone player that is the problem.

i just tried to burn another mpg i did everything you said, and still nothing worked, is it ok the the mpg file i have is mpeg 1 and that you have me demux it to m2v? Also the only other thing i did was add the second half of the mpg in sizzle by hitting add track. I can however insert it in my powerbook and let it play by opening the dvd player and selecting open video_ts folder, if i just let it automatically play it opens the first second of the movie plays teh music and freezes up, its strange. also in my home dvd players instead of rejecting it it just says loading forever. Please tell me this is something simple

It is pretty easy, once you get down to routine. I'm pretty sure you've still got some erroneous character/s in your file name to be able to reproduce that error (I don't know if it's possible, but maybe characters invisible to the finder?). Try selecting your file to change the file name and delete everything, not just what you believe to be the culprit, now try typing in the simplest of names to replace it.

Ok, I have a .m2v file (618 megs) and a .mp2 files (86.6 megs). The file names are "video.m2v" and "audio.mp2".
Now, I went to "Open..." and selected my .mp2 file like the tut said...however, I got an applescript error. I quit ffmpeg and tried again. Same thing. I restarted my computer. Same thing. So I tried going on like nothing happened and I still got the error like before (not the applescript error, I got the error as posted above).
