  1. Which OS is faster, Win2000 or XPpro? It needs to be used for MS Office, internet, little games, audio-cd mixing, and yeah... DVD authoring/burning Other than interface, XP doesn't seem to offer much over win2k, and I can set all settings in network manually.
    Thanks!

I experienced Win2000 as much better in processing time, much faster and improved responses. This really depends on the CPU and how much memory the computer is using.

The Celeron processor is unsuitable for WinXP and this is what I experieced. The Compaq computer is now reverted back to Win2000 for this reason. It is much better now.

WinXP tends to increase the load and take up the computer's resources and this slows it down. Microsoft put to too much in the OS. I have to switch some things off.

I remember having to disable programs running in the background to improve performance. My Windows 98 computer is also like that and I disabled the unnecessary programs running from start up and being active all the time.

Some programs do put too much on the computer as well and again have reduce it with the settings.

WinXP is great on powerful new computers such Pentuim 4 or whatever processor chip is used. My advice is don't upgrade WinXP on an old computer.

  4. Both Win2k and X are more demanding of resources than earlier Win OSes, but both can be skimmed down a bit. They just have too much crud running by default.

The Win98 computer won't be here forever for me. It's getting old and is wee too small. The HD is only 4 GB. Anyway, I am using this computer now and works well accessing the Internet.
