Audio/Video Sync problems with DVD Ripping to (S)VCD

Hi,

I followed Sefy's excellent Newbie Ripping Guide which explains how to
use various tools to rip DVDs and convert to (S)VCD but I always
get a unsynced audio/video when using DVD2AVI. Here is what I am
doing: (SwordFish movie):

- Ripping with DVDDecrypter
- Converting with DVD2AVI 1.77.3 and TMPGEnc 2.511

When I encode the D2V file to either VCD or SVCD with TMPGEnc, the
audio and video are not synced, practically from the beginning. I've
tried the following and still see the problem:
- Used SCMPX and SSRC for encoding and downsampling
- Used TMPGEnc's internal encoder and (hi quality) downsampler
- Used DVD2AVI's built in downsampler (from 48KHz to 44.1KHz)

No matter what I try, the audio and video won't stay synced.

Any tips, ideas?

One more thing: I also see that DVD2AVI sees the DVD as "FILM". not as "NTSC". Is this the issue - do I need to do 3:2 pulldown or something else?

What is your Field Operation set to in DVD2AVI?
under Video option
Mine is set to None.
I have at one point set it to Film but I do not remember if I actually completed anything on that setting.
My audio is set at Dolby Digital/Decode
48>44 off (I use tmpgenc/toolame to convert to 44)
Im asuming you then save project w/d2v file and wav.
But doesnt DVD2AVI start at the begining of sound rather than at time 0.
Is it unsync'd from the begining?

Field operation is set to NONE.

Audio is set to Dolby Digital downmix to Surround, and no 48K to 44.1K
downsampling.

Yes audio/video are not synced from the start.

DVD2AVI sees the MPEG as FILM, not NTSC so perhaps I need to
select "Field Operation->Forced FILM" in DVD2AVI? And then do
3:2 Pulldown in TMPGEnc?

Weird one other thing, DVD2AVI sees the first section of the video as NTSC but then the rest as FILM

Okay so I am responding to my own posts.

I found the problem. The first few seconds of the video is NTSC
(the lead-in) and then the rest of the video is FILM. By starting
the encode at the FILM beginning all works fine.

vcdduded - You are the man! I wondered why a few of my DVD backups were out of sync. I tried what you said and it worked!! Did you have to restart at DVD2AVI or do you know how to start encoding at a different point using TMPGenc? Thanks again!!!!
