  1. I am using Ulead DVD Workshop and I want to have some background video to use in my menus. Something like Ocean/wave, sky/cluds, etc.. that move and can be repeated. I have seen http://www.animationsforvideo.com/html/time_image.htm and http://www.corporatemotion.com . I was hoping there is a free resource out there where I can download stuff like this.

  2. I've looked for free stuff myself without success. There are some CD's on Ebay that seem fairly reasonably priced (e.g. $25 or less) for a larger number of motions than seems to be on the expensive packages. I do have a some Ulead motion background CD's a got at a show. The price was okay, as the show deal was buy one get one.

  4. I don't use Ulead (or even have a DVD burner for that matter!)

.. but what format do the clips have to be in for you to use them?

The first link that lurker gave says that the clips are all mov's

If the format's pretty flexible, can't you capture or convert something suitable?

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

  5. Yeah. U can import movs or any other format in there. Obviously, I am looking for something high quality. As for capturing or converting, I wouldn't know where to start. I don't want to just go to some movie or show and rip some content from it.

  6. A couple of suggestions for you:

    1. Ulead COOL 3D STUDIO is a new product that features some cool animated backgrounds that can be used as MOTION MENU BACKGROUNDS:

    http://www.ulead.com/c3ds/runme.htm

    2. Check out the samples on the Ulead Pick-A-Video PRO site:

    http://www.ulead.com/pav_pro/runme.htm

These are not free, but they're reasonably-priced and the quality is excellent.

If I think of some more options, I'll post again.

High quality is a hangup with my solution, but it is cheap and it works.

I discovered that my Ulead Video Studio 3.0 program, left over in my CD-ROM library for many years now, will import and play a standard GIF file from the net. I will use that program to create a short AVI, then I will import that AVI into Adobe Premiere. Next, I shrink it and fill in the background with the foreground color, or make it transparent using Chroma Key. After that, you must use your imagination, but it can be expanded, shrunk, moved and faded. I'm guessing that you can pull off some effects like Tim Allen used to use in his Home Imprvemnent Show with those little corner animations

  9. The Tinderbox 'T-Sky' plugin for AAFX is also fantastic for generating moving sky footage, but it ain't cheap...

This won't be much help to you, but I am a big fan of BBC nature documentaries, so I always extract snippits of them from my collection for a few seconds of scenic footage.

    PS
DVDWS seems to only seems to allow 5 seconds of motion footage
on a menu. Anyone figured out how to make it do more? (eg. 30sec)
The glass is neither half-full, nor half-empty.
It is simply twice as big as it needs to be.

  11. I noticed that too using the demo version. Once I got the non demo 1.3, it gave me any amount of time I wanted.

Sometimes, you just have to laugh - it's a downright obligation!

You could also leave your miniDV cam on a tripod, pointed at the sky, on a sunny day and use that for background footage. Obvious but no less effective for it. In such instances, it is often worth unnaturally altering the colour balance, to suit your artistic whims, since it can give a more 'solid' background to the overlying buttons.

  15. Pinnacle Studio 8 comes with some mpeg files for motion video. They can be used with other sw as well. they're simply some short mpeg clips. I've used a couple of them and they're quite nice. I don't know if a demo version is available or not. If you know somebody who has that sw, maybe he'll let you copy them, or e-mail them to you. They're very small files.
