  1. I am totally fed up of trying to get TMPGEnc to work this is what I'm trying to do;

    Convert an .avi file to an MPEG1 file so I can burn it to a VCD

    Problems;

    1) Picture is perfect and so is sound then sound went a bit garbled not out of sync just fuzzy sounding.
    2) Picture is perfect and sound then the sound goes out of sync.

    What I've tried to do;

    1) Tried altering the VFAPI plug in as advised to increase the direct media reader priority.
    2) I tried ripping the sound off the avi file in wav format and using it as a seperate source when selecting the audio file in TMPGEnc.
    3) I've also used audio dub to check for bad frames and if there was any I've used Divfix to repair them.

    Now when I tried encoding without ripping the audio file seperately this is when the sound went fuzzy. Then when I ripped the audio this is when the sound went out of sync.

    I am sick to death of this program as I'm sure other people are but can someone guide me in the right direction or advise me of another program that I can try.

    Now if anybody can help I'll be very impressed

    Thanks

  2. Have you checked for bad frames in your file, this could be causing some of the errors that you are describing.

    Is this a file you have downloaded ?

  3. I've checked and repaired if required the bad frames and this is not only happening on one film, all the files I have tried to encode into MPEG1 have the same problem and all the files are downloaded off the net using BitTorrent, I'm using the latest version of TMPGEnc also in case this is of any help

    Check your sound file also, it might be 4800 instead of 4400.

    I too have given up on TMPGEnc. I've havn't been able to convert a single avi file. I then tried U-Leads Movies factory. I have been able to do more conversions with this program more than any other stright to vcd or dvd.

  6. Tinpaul I've just loaded the movie into virtual dub and it says the audio is 48000Hz is this what you meant as you posted 4800? Also if this is the case how can I convert it to 44000Hz?

    Finally courtrrb where can I get the Ulead program from just in case this doesn't work?

    Thanks

    open the file in virtual dub. then go to audio and check full processing mode. then go to audio again and check 44100, 16 bit, hi quality, and stereo then go to the file menu and save wav. use this fixed wav as your audio source. you can check the sync before you burn by opening your video in virtual dub again then go to adio and choose wav as source , browse for your new wav and insert then paly in vdub. 48000 is the sampling rate for dvd audio, while 44100 is the sampling rate for vcd audio. The audioi gets out of sync usually because the 48000 is recorded as a variable bit rate and the vcd needs a constant bitrate audio, by converting the sound as above youowill then get a constant bitrate audio.

  8. If TMPGEnc is fussy about a file I use, I jus stick it through VirtualDub and re-encode with a codec that it understand (DivX 4 Low Motion, to be on the safe side). I used to have loads of trouble, but now everything seems to have cleared up.

    Also are you using Nimo codec pack? I believe that was a source of most of my problems, so i dumped it in favour of Kazaa Lite codec pack. I did hear that the Kazaa pack might contain viruses, but my Norton doesnt see anything and they work great.
    Thx in Advance!!

  9. What's your source? You say AVI but I suspect it's a d/loaded DivX or xvid video file. The audio could be mp3 (or ac3). What's the framerate of your source. Are you using TMPGenc's VCD template?

  10. The files are all either downloaded Xvid or Divx and with varying framerates as below:

    Darkness Falls: 23.976fps

    Equilibrium: 23.976fps

    Phone Booth: 25 fps

    The Hot Chick: 23.976 fps

    How do I check what the audio source is? I done what secretagent said and started to batch encode over night it was running for over 9 hours and it had not moved one frame but the timer was at over 9 hours, I am so pissed with this.

    What do you mean the TMPGenc template? I'm just following the tutorial thats posted hear.

    Thanks Again

    At least you all have sound. I have a great picture w/o sound. Used TMPGenc to encode from my Dominion DivX. Is this one that I have to do the AC3 thing? I've been doing this only for 2 days - trying to learn. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thx.
