  1. I'm trying to create a dvd from home video. I think I've read about every help article on this site but I still have a problem.
I record the video in avi.
Then I convert it with tmpgenc to mpeg2 dvd format.
I am using the settings that come with the dvd configuration file in tmpgenc.
Then I use Mydvd to write it to dvd.
The clarity is great until someone starts to move and then there's this kind of a blur type of digitized thing going on.
I've tried changing the tmpgenc so that it uses the motion search precision of high and the quality actually got worse.

I could really use some help. Otherwise I'm going to spend a fortune burning test dvds.

    Thanks

To start with, why don't you buy a +RW or -RW disk? Will save you the fortune in burning disks just for test.

Regarding the low quality, two things grabbed my attention.
First, Mydvd re-encodes the video. So, whatever you do with Tmpgenc is irrelevent and redundant. (Actually, I would argue that MyDVD is redundant. You should try Tmpgenc's DVD authoring program).

The blurry effect you mention - and the fact that it's a home video, brings to mind field order problems. The source video is interlaced. The issue is: Are the odd scan lines first or the even scan lines? If you get it wrong, you get a blurry effect in motion and panning. Of course you can get a "blurry" effect for a whole lot of other reasons.

When encoding in Tmpgenc, check the Advanced settings and switch the value for the Field Order (Field A / Field B).
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

Under QUANTIZE MATRIX, your block soften filter may be enabled. It is set to 35 by default. And look at the final product on tv. The computer sees too much.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
