How are the results when burning an iso image with dvd decrypter? I've heard that it has some compatibility problems, i have an apex ad-1600, should it play dvd-r's burned from iso images?

I've had no problems whatsoever, they behave just like the original discs.
I've played them on my Apex 1010W, and on Sony, Riate and Lite-On dvd-rom drives, no problems.

No problems here!
If you are backing up a single layer DVD then there is simply nothing better than doing it with DVD Decrypter using ISO mode.
I have one DVD player that often can't read DVD-R discs ... even those made in a Panasonic stand alone DVD recorder ... yet any single layer DVD I've backed up using the DVD Decrypter ISO method works like a charm.

Can't rely on Nero so I use ImgTool to make an ISO, then burn the ISO with Decrypter

Hello
To create an image from a VIDEO_TS folder use ImgTools (classic version) which can be downloaded from the doom9 website. I know in the section on how to use DVD2ONE there is a guide on how to take the VIDEO_TS folder of files (that DVD2ONE creates but of course other programs do that as well) and then use ImgTools (classic version) to create an image and then burn it with DVD Decrypter. So even if you don't use DVD2ONE that guide has the info you need on creating an image file from a VIDEO_TS folder of files.

How about a non-DVD ISO? How does one create one of those? Nero doesn't seem to be capable of creating ISO's. I've even updated my 5.5.9.9 to 5.5.10.42 and it only list one, propeitary image format that isn't ISO.

Getting back to your original post...
Yes it should work... However, go to the DVD PLayers link in the left column and search on the APEX AD-1600. There are 39 (or so) reviews of it and most of them have at least some problems with stability, blurriness, or compatibility issues.Only 3 things are certain in life... Death, Taxes, and SPAM. Of these, only Death seems affordable!

in the early days, at least, .iso images were better... (i.e. i noticed early versions of nero w/ dvd support burned DVD-R/+R that had compatibility issues....however, if the same nero burned an .iso image, the problem went away)

I've never had any problems using decrypter to burn ISO's. That's how I burn every DVD.
I run a little side VHS 2 DVD converstion business and have sold several DVD's to several people and have never had one not play...(knock on wood), they even play in a PS2. I am also very faithful to the Ritek 4x media, I don't use anything else.
That has not been the case necessarily when I used Nero, Roxio or some other software to burn.
