I do plan on seeing it, although the preview really does nothing for me.
And I won't be bringing my laptop.

    Here's a snippet from the AP's review:

"Andy and Larry Wachowski should double-check their ammo. The brothers behind 1999's visionary "The Matrix" are shooting blanks with "The Matrix Reloaded," the first of two sequels due this year.

One of Hollywood's most anticipated movies, "The Matrix Reloaded" is possibly the worst sequel to a really good film ever made ("Jaws: The Revenge" excluded).

Huffing and puffing with ponderously self-important notions of reality, destiny and cause and effect, the movie barrages viewers with "Matrix"-type action and style, which has been copied so often that it's become monotonous. The images are intense and turgid, but so cartoonish and over-the-top, they're almost a caricature of the original.

The sequel is virtually devoid of the first film's sly sense of film-noir intrigue and apocalyptic mythos. The sharp dialogue and gradually unfolding revelations are replaced by a juvenile muddle of cryptograms and babbling philosophy that sound significant but really are just vacuous jabber between action sequences.

There's no sense of the layered unmasking of "The Matrix," where the answer to one question raised three more intriguing ones. The questions the sequel poses about free will and the relationship between humanity and machines are so banal, there's little hope of satisfying answers when the trilogy concludes this November with "The Matrix Revolutions."

Along the way, Neo and friends encounter old and new acquaintances, most with silly names, some with silly hairdos.

The Wachowskis were given $300 million to squander shooting both sequels simultaneously. This movie was not worth the wait, and it certainly was not worth the money.

  3. Maybe it'll be like the Star Trek syndrome of bad sequel/good sequel. Not too hyped on it myself. Lots of shameless promoing in it from what I hear. Can't go wrong with that 500 piece of crap phone though from Sprint PCS. I laugh at anyone who is dumb enough to purchase it.

  4. I had a chance to see the movie last night. Overall I thought it was good but with a few asterisks:

    1. I felt that the love scenes with Trinity and Neo, which were frequent and long-winded, served only to slow the pace of the film.

    2. The celebration following Morpheus's address to the people of Zion turned into a orgy of sorts. Not the kind of activity you would expect from a group of people under attack. This part of the scene appeared to be out of character and probably should have been deleted.

    3. The initial fighting sequence between Neo and the Agent Smiths, was over the top and appeared to bore most of the viewers in attendance.

    4. Philosophically, RELOADED, posed many more questions than did the first movie. Seeing part 3 therefore, is imperative.

The most exciting scene in the entire movie is the chase on the freeway. That alone is nearly worth the price of admission.

All in all, the film is a must for Matrix fans. Casual admirers however, may want to wait for the DVD release.

  5. I reckon it looks AMAZING and i CANT wait to see it!! as i live in uk i will have to wait until 23rd may!! If it is any where near as good as the 1st one then it will be one of the greatest films of the year!

It is the matter of the having the right hardware, program and a skilled user like Neo.

So why wear coats at all? In fact, the world in the original was created to fool sleeping humans. Since they now know it's fake, why continue it?

Yes, I imagine it does pose more questions:

    Why wear sun glasses?
Why does everyone wear such dark colors?
Why fly? Why not just "be there"?
Why bring your laptop to a movie?
Why wonder if "this war can be won tonight" when you know there's already a part 3?
Why does Keanu get paid $20 million a movie when his acting ability is on the same level as a porn star?
Why am I going to see it when I expect it to suck?

  9. I went to a sneak preview on tuesday night and I thought the first one was much better. Reloaded is a love story and it put me to sleep during the first half of the movie. It is worth seeing and it is not a bad movie but my expectations were to high, so I was disappointed. Can't wait to see the third one, I hear it is better than the second one.

  12. Damn was this a good sequel !!! No doubt. Just got out of the theater and it left me feeling very hyped to see its conclusion. The sooner the better.

They have reached the pinnacle as far as camera motion tracking and the way movies should be shot and told. Matrix has again raised the bar, its fighting moves are so precise cause you see it happen like in a RPG shooter. Eg. Like on the freeway scene with the truck. Or as the heros move, jump, kick, the camera follows it all, with flawless image quality. And nearly the most realistic human movements that are impossible but only in video games.

Hey, and the superman thing is way cool. it was not done just for effect, it definitely serves an important purpose. Just wait until you see Reloaded, you'll discover why. And for the more serious types out there, you'll appreciate its parrallelism to the "real world" we live in now. Or wait, maybe we are in the "matrix" now but WE JUST DON"T KNOW IT

Go see it for a good time, then come back and discuss it here for even more fun.

I would also suggest that you watch the Animatrix before going to Reloaded. It might explain a number of things that are not self evident as well, several references are made in Reloaded that are in the Animatrix (The Kid, The Osiris, etc.).

The second movie doesn't compare to the first one. However, the action was top notch and the special effects are outstanding.

How can a man hold up his hand and stop between 3 and 4000 bullets?
How can one man fight 40 to 60 men (the same man by the way) at once, AND survive?

‘Total suspension of belief” required when it comes to reality in this movie (many more examples similar to the ones above are available, but don't want to give any of the movie away).

Nonetheless, I enjoyed it. Didn't understand any of the philosophy. To my knowledge, no questions from the first movie were answered; many, many more questions were raised.

Most movies like this you just have to turn your brain off, forget about real world physics, turn your imagination on and just enjoy the "what if you could" factor.

I'll go see it again this weekend and be one of the first to buy the DVD (and back it up) as soon as it's available.

    Enjoy
    Thanks,

    Too funny!!!

The Matrix is the story of Jesus. Just do a WWW search on 'Matrix Religion'. The number of paralells is in the 100's (when he dies in the original, he's dead for 72 seconds....72 hours...3 days, the reserection of christ).

The nebukaneezer, Judas...it's all there in excruitating detail, just search.

    spoiler warning:
can someone explain that whole choice thing? is this trying to say that even the real world is somehow part of the matrix too? how did neo stop those sentinels? shouldn't his powers only be confinded to the matrix?
to that I would say... how many layers deep does the Matrix go?

    @mmmbeer -

I have to say, I need to be reminded of the corporate shilling - I'm usually pretty tuned to stuff like that (it doesn't necessarilly bother me, but I tend to notice it) and nothing like that registered with me when I saw it.

    @various other posters -

I agree, it's not as groundbreaking as the original... but you can't fake virginity. Overall I'll give it an 8.5 out of 10 - there are a couple of sequences that are unnecessary or slow the film down, and a couple of shots that are a little too "I'm in love with my cool camera moves", but overall, it's a damn good movie.

    Without spoling anything............
if you were upset by the ending of the first movie, the ending of this one is going to make you pull your hair out and scream until you run out of air!

At least thats what I did.

The movie is amazing, Well worth it to see it in the theaters. My town has an old movie theater that only shows one movie at a time, but the screen is HUGE!!!!!!!!!! probably 2x that of a normal theater.

Anyway, I had to get the tickets a month in advance and it was well worth it!.

Oh yea and by the way, the guy 1st in line with the 17" powerbook -his girl did look a LOT like ellen!!!

I thought it was ok but my friend who was with me walked out in the middle of the movie, i guess i am a lot forgiving.
Loved the action scenes, but could not understand why he could not kill smith again who could replicate himself. And to our neo who now owns the matrix could not even change things in matrix.
Well this is my thinking, i can control this world, stop bullets why not just stand there and wave your hand at the smiths and they just collapse and die(if you guys know what i am talking about). He actully runs away from all those smiths(well flys away).

And can someone exlpain to me what choiuce he had to make in the end where he reaches the source mainframe, i did not quite understand the chatter.

Oh and in the third part if i actually hear morpheos utter another word i might enter the matrix and kick his butt(his chatter gave me a migrain)

Love scenes were not necessay at all, that killed it.

And oh yes how about when he takes on the guys (saving the keymaker scene) why not take on the twins who seemed more powerfull than the stupid thugs who jump around.

And if i remember correctly agent smith does not behave this time when he is brought back, so was he just having a break when he picks a fight now and then with neo. If you ask me they should be locked in a room and made to watch this movie

    OK, saw it.

    Didn't bring my laptop.
Didn't bring my non-existant Matrix loving girlfriend.

I have to agree with the points MrSash (sounds like a sentinal kinda) makes.

The following won't give anything away, but does give a small detail of the movie, so read at your own risk.

As for the choice Neo had to make, he is told he is part of the machines plan.

If he goes through one door, he repeats the cycle of the machines destroying the human city, but the human race as a whole will survive (as batteries). Trinity will die, however.

If he chooses the other door, he may save Trinity, but the human race will cease to exist.

Thats what I got anyway. As for his power at the end, I assume he always had it but just discovered it at that moment.

Overall, I don't feel I got ripped off, but then, my expectations were very low.

Visuals - 10 (but get stoned first so the repetitiveness dosn't boor you).
Story - 4 (see advice for visuals).

Waiting for DVD. Have a 65" HDTV and it's just like being in the theatre, only better (no sticky floors, no heads in the way, no talking, and can pause movie if need to pee.)

i agree with you leebo. i go to a movie just to be entertained. i don't go and be all punctilious and look for stuff to complain about like, "how can he fly? i know its not the real world but he should not be able to fly. its not realistic." if you can do a better job, then go right ahead. i would love to see that.
