There's a flash for the mac at, http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/archives/may03/051203.html#S15533 , scroll down abit on that page, you have to be in 0S9 to do it, not in classic. I used it and it worked.

  3. I already used the official firmware patch but i want to know if itīs possible to flash the patched firmware (allowing to rip/burn at higher speed, more media compability) using exactly that flash program but using the patched fw binary !

  4. You want to hack the firmware, so you can burn DVDs faster and use cheap/crappy media. Hmmm.... Do really think that's a wise idea?

You'll poke your eye out kid!

    Its not!
Its a waste of time and you will actually probably find that the supposed faster burn is equal or slower than your burn time you had before!
Likewise, you will most likely run into media specificity that will make you go insane!

  6. I just downloaded the Firmware updater, booted in to OS 9.xx, and attempted to run it for my LaCie Pioneer 105 DVD-RW/R FW/USB 2.0 drive, but the updater failed to identify the drive. I guess the drive has to be installed internally for it to be recognized. LaCie also has not got an update - i just submitted a request to them.
    Any ideas, anyone?

  7. I just wanted to let people know that I successfully upgraded my 105 with the patched firmware and it was cake. I haven't found many testimonials that this is a safe operation, so let me say that it is both painless and worthwhile. Not only is my drive now region-free (in hardware, software is still an issue you have to deal with) but I can burn to some DVD-R blanks i bought that were producing only coasters before. Ripping time is also improved, but after putting the drive back in its firewire case, I won't get that benefit anymore. Here is what I did:

I put the 105 in my G4 tower, rebooted into OS 9 and downloaded a copy of Pioneer's UpgMac firmware updated for the 105 from the AMUG website (now down). I also grabbed a copy of the patched windows firmware from the excellent people over at rpc1.org. Then i simply replaced the Pioneer stock firmware with the patched ones and dragged the R5100004.130 file onto UpgMac.exe.

I put together a .sit file with the UpgMac application and the patched firmware here:

    http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/tjp13/DVR105_FW130M_PATCHED.sit

    And here is the original:

    http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/tjp13/DVR105_FW130M_PIONEER.sit

    Hope this helps someone.

  8. Hi,

I already applied the official Firmware (1.30) and tried to apply the patched firmware. The Upgrade Applictaion always tells my that i already have the 1.30 firmware when iīm trying to flash the patched one. How can I apply the patched one???

  9. Well, i've HEARD that if you use resedit or resourcer you can change the modification and/or the creation date on the file and then the firmware updater will accept it as an upgrade even if it's the same version. I don't know as I've never tried it and don't want to bust my drive. Let us know how it goes, though, as I'm curious.

    You can download resedit here:

    http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North..._2.1.3.sea.bin

Some more good info about Resedit is to be found here:

What is the differnce from 1.33 and 1.30? On Pioneer's web site it just says it's for PC Windows.

Is it worth doing the 1.33 update?

  14. I just flashed the 1.33 firmware because i wanted to use the patched version and already had flashed the official fw. So itīs just for the sake of ripping at higher speeds and burning ritek media at 2x
