  1. I would like to know how to convert an xvid or divx 5.1 ac3 to dvd so it will play on my stand alone dvd player with dolby digital sound, I know how to convert an avi to dvd, using virtual dub, and tmpgenc, but that only gives the audio in dolby pro logic, so if anyone knows of a guide that can help, or give me any help I would be grateful.

Strip the audio out in vdub, change the extension to ac3, then run the ac3 fix on it. There's your DVD audio track (it came from the DVD that way).

  3. Thanks for your help, I am trying to do what you suggested, vitual dub would not let me extract the audio it said 'no audio compressor could be found to decompress the source audio format' so I used AVI2WAV and changed the extension to ac3 and used ac3 fix, and I am now using TMPGEnc to encode it, but I don't know if this will work.
Decompressor is Xvid Mpeg 4-codec, and I have all the codecs installed for xvid, audio is 5(Stereo) unknown (tag 2000).

You can use virtualdub, but you must choose audio->direct stream copy www.dvdrhelp.com/virtualdubaudio .

Encode only the video in tmpgenc, then you can author with for example ifoedit(free), ulead workshop(both supports ac3).

  5. Hi All,

Guess what I almost did it converted the movie to Dolby Digital, after staying up all hours, finally this morning I conquered it.

I saved the wav file in virtual dub, (direct stream copy) and then I used BeSliced on the wav to create a new AC3 file called audio_Fixed01.ac3, converted the video in TMPGEnc Plus ES (Video only), then I used Ifo Edit to Author the DVD.

Hey presto, one Dolby Digital DVD playing on my stand alone dvd player, but the BIG BIG problem after 25 minutes it stops.

The only thing I found that I could not burn it on Prassi Primo, it came up with errors, but I used Nero, and it burned perfectly. So now I am back converting the video with TMPGEnc System (Video only), but I will keep trying until I get it right.

Maybe in the end I will suceed, or just say forget it.

How do you use ac3fix, there seems to be a lot of people in the forums not quite sure?

I did work, but the BIG BIG problem was the AVI one of the frames is not right, so it has sent the whole movie out of sync
