  1. Hi all

I have just bought a firewire card and am not sure how to install it.

The instructions say it can get power from the PCI slot or by moving a jumper on the card from the power supply. How do I know which one I need to do?

I have installed it with it set up to get the power from the PCI slot. I have downloaded the trial versions of ULead Video Studio and also Pinnacle Studio 8. With both lots of software I get an error message saying no device is connected.

My camcorder is a Canon MV600.

I am sure the firewire card is fitted correctly because SiSoft Sandra lists it as been so.

    Any thoughts

  2. Come on someone must be able to tell me how to install a firewire card correctly.

  3. What brand Firewire card do you have? Try the manufacturer's support page for hints and suggestions.

Doesn't the card come with a driver CD? Make sure you install the drivers. Forget about Sandra...check in Device Manager. If it's registered there properly then that's what counts.

The driver CD should have some kind of application software on it...mine came with Sonic MyDVD and ArcSoft Showbiz. Use the apps your card came with before you try anything you downloaded from the Net.

Try this; shut your computer down. Plug your camcorder in, turn it on, connect the firewire. Boot your PC. See if it now sees the camera? The firewire isn't powering your camcorder, so pci-power shouldn't matter.

  6. Thnks for the replies-much appreciated

The card is an InnoVision DV-1000LE, i couldnt find any useful information on their website. No software came with the card.

I have had a look in device manager and my camcorder is listed so does this mean it is installed correctly? There is no driver for the product installed and I have searched for one without success.

    No further forward

    Any more thoughts

If you mean plug in the firewire lead to the camcorder with the computer up and running then it does nothing.

But like I said - in device driver it is listed as Canon MV600. so the computer recognises that I have a camcorder connected?

Maybe it is a software fault with the editing software?

  15. Thanks for the replies everyone.

I am giving up for tonight, just cant get to grips with why my computer says I have a camcorder connected but the editing software doesnt recognise it. I am not sure if it is a new model of camcorder and maybe the software doesnt recognise it, is that possible?

Logically if device manager says a camcorder is connected then it must be the editing software. This seems strange that it is the same with two different programs, bearing in mind that if this is the results which I get with the trial versions of the software then it doesnt exactally make me want to go out and buy the full versions!

I may be totally incorrect about this of course since I am a bit of a novice with computers

    Thanks anyway

  16. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Eventually found it according to the Ulead website camcorder compatability list

    http://www.ulead.com/vs/compatibility.htm

My camcorder is not supported, I can only assume that the Pinnacle Studio 8 software is the same.

No further forward if this is the correct. What editing software is compatable with my camcorder ???????????????????????????????????????????

Have I made a bad buy here??

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Cheers

  17. Download ScenalyzerLive...that should work with your Firewire card and camcorder.

  18. Your camera is the UK equilivent to the US zr60mc camera. All of the functions are the same but the default format is set up for Uk video systems.

When I first tried to get my zr-series camera to talk to the PC I had a lot of trouble. many of the downloadable programs are not updated to work with these cameras, but the purchased versions seem to work well when you register them and download the updates. (I've done that with both the Pinnacle and the Ulead products).

Before I invested in the commercial software I found DVIO over in the tools section of this site and it connected to the camera on the first try. I used it to download 3 full tapes and eventually used the output from DVIO in the downlaodable version of Ulead VideoStudio.

I suggest trying the DVIO freeware before investing in any other packages.

    Good Luck

  19. Thanks for the replies again

I have tried using DVIO and hey guess what-it doesnt work Everytime I try to capture I get an error message saying "DVIO has caused an error in KERNAL32.dll DVIO will now close"

I will try ScenalyzerLive when I get a chance-but I dont hold out much hope.

Did you install a TWAIN driver? I know that's old.....bit I suspect your missing a device driver somewhere. You said it dodn't come with much. Try a generic camera, or maybe a similiar model?

Now I really am confused I have never heard of a TWAIN driver before. I did a quick search and came up with this

    http://www.canondv.com/downloads/camcorder_software.html

My camera isnt listed but a ZR70MC is, according to SVCDummy my camera is the UK equivalant of the ZR series. Do you think I should try this download or am I on the wrong track totally.

    Cheers

KD2 Yes! Equivalent or 'almost the same' usually work. It's the same with printers, you can often select an older printer driver to use with a newer printer to make the software think it's using something it knows. The same applies to DV Cams.

Most of the settings are dealing with how to control the camera from the computer, so the software can capture.
