  1. Hey I am trying to figure out how to convert Streaming video such as a .ASX
(microsofts streaming format) file or .SMI (Real Player Format). to an AVI
or anything I can use to convert to a VCD.

Also maybe there is a program for capturing the screenplay and saving that?
Like a screen capturing tool or something thats fast enough to catch video?

    Thanx

    Cade

Those are a couple of programs that can capture streaming data. I have never used them but I thought I'd point you in the right direction at least.

  3. The only way I've been able to get a versitile copy of a product I've paid for (i.e. backup copy protected video streams) is it plug my video output into a video tape recorder. Mine happens to be a digital camcorder, so the conversion to analog is the only lossy process. I could then get the digital video back on the computer and make a SVCD from it (another lossy process, but by choice) and then view my purchased product on my TV and not worry about losing access to the product after I upgrade my computer.

This wasn't a big deal because the video happened to be claymation, so picture quality didn't really suffer, however, I'll never purchase anything else like that with the restrictions it has (fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me).

  4. I was able to capture the streaming video no problem with StreamBox. But does anyone know of an authoring/conversion tool for this *.smi file format?

Looking around this website I can't seem to find it, checking DivX Digest right now.
