  1. This is my first time trying to make an SVCD. My source video is an AVI, and TMPGEnc says it is

    "MPEG-1 640x400 25fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 48000Hz 192kbps"

    I haven't seen that size (640x400) mentioned anywhere, and when I follow the SVCD instructions, it gets distorted and some of it is cut off. I'm wondering if it needs resized, and if so, how I go about doing that, and if not, what setting(s) need to be changed. Thanks in advance.

    Does it gets cut off on the computer also? or just on the TV?

  3. I didn't burn it... just did a preview in TMPGEnc.

  4. The preview in TMEGEnc stinks. View it MS media player or some other view to get a better idea on how it will look.

  5. OK right now this is the info for the two movies I want to put on VCD or SVCD..

    Dogma - MPEG-1 640x256 23.976fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps

    Hackers 2 - MPEG-1 640x400 25fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 48000Hz 192kbps

    As you can see, the sizes are somewhat odd, and TMPGEnc cuts off part of it and it also looks somewhat distorted, so I would relaly appreciate any help you can give. Thanks

    Advanced tab:
    source aspect ratio 1:1(VGA)
    video arrange method "full screen(keep aspect ratio)"
    Video tab:
    Since the bitrate of the source is quite low, so I guess, it isn't a very good quality, just load a VCD template and use a noise reduction filter.

  7. I also have a question about this.

    If you have an *.avi file that is 352 x 288 and u want to create a svcd (or xsvcd). Is it worth it to resize to 480x480? Does resizing have anything to do with picture quality? Or, when u resize do you actually increase the size of the image on the TV screen?

    Never made a (s)vcd before. Just curious...

    rdad, it isn't worth to resize 352x288 to 480x576.
    Resizing have to do with quality, if you have a high resolution source, i.e. 720x576 and resize to a smaller frame.480x576 look more detailed(i.e. usually better) than 352x288.
    The more pixels/frame, the higher bitrate you need.
    DVD=720x576 @ avg 3000-6000kbps
    SVCD=480x576 @ avg 1500-2500kbps
    VCD=352x288 @ CBR 1150 kbps
    Since a TV screen displays a (S)VCD as full screen, resizing has nothing to do with the size of the image.
    Hope this helps.

  9. Truman thanks for the info.

    One last question: if u have a clip that is 480x576 and u create a vcd for ntsc playback. Will u be able to see the whole movie on your tv (ntsc)? Or, will part of the image be clipped off?

    I guess, if you have a MPEG clip with resolution 480x576, it is probably PAL. So you run into more problems than only resizing. Short said, I don't know. Seach the forum for PAL to NTSC conversion.
