  1. trying to grab about 120 seconds from a show that is mpeg2. i tried TMPGEnc but get an illegal video stream error. Tried FlaskMPG but I am using that wrong because what I thought I was cutting out to edit was wrong, I actually cut out what I wanted to keep.

What can I use to just grab this 120 seconds from this MPEG2 file? Womble doesn't work - not unless I spend $100's on it.

Maybe someone can help me with the TMPGEnc error? I loaded the Elecard Codec. Still get the error.

    Thanks for any help!

"Grab" it? How? -- Cut/join? Or opening it to re-encode?
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  3. Grabing 120 seconds of footage and getting rid of the rest of it. All I want out of the entire 1 hr program is 120 seconds in a file for emailing.

    Still not answering my question....

Are you opening the file and selecting a source range for re-encode?
Or using the MPEG tools to cut out a piece?

  5. Do you have the file in avi or mpeg format or when you say "grab" do you mean capture ?
    If it's wet, drink it

Open the file and use Merge/Cut in TMPGEnc under MPEG Tools to cut out a piece.

It may not be a compliant file or have errors. TMPGenc is only guaranteed to work with its own files. Either find another cutter, or just re-encode that 2 minute piece. If it is not for MPEG2 quality sampling, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you're sending a work sample, find another one. TMPGenc will be stubborn.

  9. I used the Ulead trial and it worked great (!) EXCEPT the file is 11mb in size, SO what should I use to get that down to a smaller MB size? I am going to go back into Ulead and see if that will work.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

How big is the bitrate/resolution. That size sounds fine.

  11. The bitrate is fine for the 11mb size, but I want to be able to email this section. I got it down to 4mb using WMV but that's still too big for email.

I don't mind sacraficing some quality, but doesn't look like Ulead will let me get it smaller than 4mb.

  12. To be honest, you are going to end up with a crap quality picture if you drop the file size much more, as you will have to start decimating the frame rate or picture size. 4Mb isn't that much, its about the same as an MP3 of a song.

  13. Bring a clip into the timeline using the small folder in the lower left corner. Then hit the Export button and choose email. I haven't tried it yet because my video computer isn't set up for email but let me know how it works if you do try it. I assume it resizes the clip for email but you'll have to see.
