yea thats what i have at the moment. you basically plug in the cable from an ariel or cable TV (cable tv normally needs a decoder) and then connect the RCA cables from the VCR to your capture card. Most VCR's come equipped with a tuner so you tune in your VCR to all the channels avalible, then you should be able to veiw them on your computer. to change the channel, there should be a channel up and channel down button on the front of your VCR. you should read your VCR manualHey I hate to get off topic, but is this true? Can I run the coax cable into my VCR and then just use the RCA output cables and plug them into my capture card and capture basic cable? How would I turn the channel? Sorry if this sounds dumb.

I think most of you guys NOT ALL are fumbling on what to say and confusing yourselves because you have to get a word in. All because of that picture next to Michelle's name. This might not even be her. It may be some guy thinking "well maybe if i give myself a woman's name and put a picture of a woman, someone will be inclined to help me and i'll get my answers".

LMFAO. Oh lord. As someone that routinely meets people online then in person....I'm amazed how pictures never match. And on here, I doubt any of the avatar icons even remotely resemble anyone personally(except mine, but rubber suits do wonders!). Is there anywhere on the Internet not steeped in hormone induced one-handed typing?

You guys are a riot
This had me thinking. What if Michelle was some French guy or cagun dude carrying that handle around. Ugggghhhh....thats hurts, because I told Michelle in another thread how cute she was and asked if she had a boyfriend.

so your saying that girls know how to capture video...and EDIT it?...and BURN it?
...wow -

Other thing I do is use my DV Camera to do analogue-digital capture from TV/Video and then transfer to PC via firewire if you are not concerned about real-time.

I missed your avatar and want to know what the fuss was about. The glass is neither half-full, nor half-empty.
It is simply twice as big as it needs to be. -
A few specifications you might want to know when selecting video and audio cables.
RG-59 and RG-6 75 ohm impedance-for antenna or composite/s-video
RG-58 50 ohm impedance- network and radio antenna
Shielded audio cable 60-100 ohm impedance- audio cables
Cat3-Cat6 100 ohm impedance per pair-network and telephone
Cable TV or standard TV- 75 ohm
Composite video or s-video- 75 ohm
Audio- normally 20,000 ohm, can vary by manufacturer
Standard length RG-59 or RG-6 cable with "F" connectors- 3,6,9,12,25,50,75,100 feet. Same for audio cables.
Michelle,
To set up the cable between the output of your DishPVR and the input of your capture card using the composite or s-video do the following.
1. Measure the distance between the DishPVR and the computer, letting the cable lay on the floor, add a couple feet(fudge factor) then look for the closest standard length cable that will work(just don't go shorter than the length you measured).
2. If using the RG-59 or RG-6 with "F" connectors on them, pick up 2 "F" to RCA plug adapters. Put the adapters on each end of the cable, you now have a 75 ohm RCA video cable.
3. Lay out your video and audio cable along the floor from the computer to the DishPVR. Avoid laying the cable parallel(next to) to any power or extension cords. The power cords can run vertical(up and down) to the a/v cables.
4. Plug in your cables and enjoy capturing. -
I thought we gave straight answers? There are 4 ways to do what Michelle wants, it's a question of quality versus $$$.

Yes, there were some good answers and there were some bad answers. I just gave the specs for the cables and one way for her to hook it up. It is up to her to decide which way she wants to go and how much she wants to spend. I hope i am not confusing her.

Only limitation to this setup is that the transmitter cannot transmit through water. So if there are water pipes, or a person, between the transmitter and receiver, the signal will not work.
Only problem with this transmitter/receiver setup is the microwave in the kitchen. Whenever it gets revved up, the signal (audio and video) gets disrupted until the microwave oven shuts off. Hope that doesn't mean I'm getting bombarded by radiation!
Kinda reminds me of that line from "Christmas Vacation" about revving up the Microwave in Cousin Eddie's house! Anyone remember that one?
Hope this helps,

Kinda late to the party...
But, what about capturing 5.1 Dolby sound when trying to do this? You can't do that by stringing 2 RCA cables...can you?
If I can't get the true Dolby stuff, I probably don't care about messing with it. I've been looking around, and haven't seen anyone address that question yet. Thanks
Roger
