  1. I converted an Xvid file with TMPGENC. The resulting mpg looks great and is approx 2.35:1
After burning to DVD the video plays at approx 1.85:1 on the TV.
The image is NOT vertically stretched, side info is lost.

I tried buring with a few different authoring programs and got the same result.

    Any help?

Go back to the original, change the source aspect ratio (to 2.35:1).
Set encoding aspect ratio to 16:9.
In crop section, add letterbox border to top and bottom to fill out to 16:9 anamorphic frame.
Then Video Arrange method would be "Full Screen" or "Center".

There are probably other ways to do this also, including adjust in Vdub or AVISynth and frameserving.

    Scott
