I am looking for a 25 pack of good dvd-r's that will
burn at 2X without any firmware hacks.
I have the Pioneer 105 DVD burner.
I use the Samsung BeAll's and they workout perfectly, but at 1X.
The Pioneer media are too expensive. Are there any good ones for less*?
*around $2.00 a disc.

I use Princo 2x all the time, and cost is just over a dollar, and quality is just fine. TDK now carries 2x discs in Target stores, and cost is right at $2. Those discs are okay.
I spend $3 each for my preferred discs: Apple DVD-Rs.I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -
apple disks are good - though you can check thier code and see they are accually MXL RG01 and MXL RG02 (current) disks which you can buy for about 1/2 the price elsewhere ... i also bought apple disks a lot till i found this out .

I checked myself, they are MXL for sure. Now if I could find a good cheap link to them on the web. (hint hint)
BTW I've read in 2 places now that the unbranded Maxells that are at Meritline are not working so well. So either they are another code OR not the same quality. Cause if they are the same as the apples that shouldn't be so. -
TDK DVD-R47A are supposed to be the same --
those unbranded maxell sound fake .. everyone who tried them says they dont work and look different than the branded maxells , though they have the same code ..
since pioneer is going out of the media bussness .. maybe apple switched ? maybe to a cheaper quality ? -
i can only find PRINCO 1X and 4X.
Are the 4X backward compatible? Or do I have to look around to find the 2X Princo's. -
Hello
A friend of mine has a SONY VAIO that came with the Pioneer A04/104 DVD burner. We have been using either MAXELL or FUJI blank DVD-R media that we have been buying at a local BEST BUY in the Pittsburgh, PA area. They were selling at $35.00 for a 10 pack (they both come in standard size CD jewel cases) but recently the price went down to only $25.00 per 10 pack. Anyways these both burn well at 2x speed. It takes 30 minutes or less to burn a DVD-R from an image file using DVD Decrypter.
Out of nearly 100 DVD-R discs that we have burned with these we have only made one coaster ... it was the very first one we tried ... stupid computer went into SUSPEND mode during the burn. I turned that SHIT off and since ... no problems.
Please note that the Maxell discs are clearly labeled 2x whereas the Fuji discs don't seem to mention it but have been burning fine at 2x with no problems what-so-ever.

P.S.
I haven't tried them yet but BEST BUY sometimes has a 15 pack (cake pack) of VERBATIM brand DVD-R discs for only $29.99 and I do believe they say that they are 2x speed. My friend and I have been so happy with the Maxell/Fuji brands though that we are afraid now to try anything else. Quality media is a BIG deal to us.
I guess I should mention that we have tried the Samsung BeAll and the price is SO attractive for how GREAT they are but they only burn at 1x in the Pioneer drives although I understand they will burn at 2x in the SONY DVD+-R drive as well as the new Panasonic Burner 2 drive (model 521 or something like that not the earlier 312/321 models). -

TDK makes great video tapes. Their DVD-R and CD-R media are not best, but surely respectable and a top contender, especially the new Armor Coated discs. And the Target sales will surely help them out.I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -
I have ordered 125 of the Maxells thare are on sell super cheaper over at Merit line, if they are good or bad I will let you know. Meritline claims they will let me exchanage for the same value in Riteks if they are bad, so at worst I'm out some shipping cost I guess.
