I use a LiteOn 32123S CD-RW (32x12x40) and the specification says that you can overburn or burn CDs up to 99min.
So first question: When I try to overburn a CD (creating a SVCD) with Nero it finishes with an error message. ie. the disc is no longer usable. How in the world am I supposed to prevent that from happening? I used a Canvell 80min. CD-R disc, if anyone actually heard of this brand.
Second question: If the specs say that the burner can record up to 99 min. does that mean I can overburn up to 99 min? Or do I have to buy 99 min. CD-Rs?
Thanks, I hope somebody would be able to answer my questions.![]()

Did you test the Canvell CDs to see how much you can over burn them? I have some TDKs that can overburn to 719meg and I have some Memorex that will only give me 701meg for overburn. I.E. I can overburn the TDKs but not the Memorex. Nero has a program that will test your CD-Rs for overburn space. Check them and see how much you can overburn.

imma take a shot at this, for you first question, try another disk, i had this problem once before, and found out that memorex works tha best for me, because most drives dont like the light that shines off the bottom of a disc, you can even try the memorex black cd-r line, whicj literally has a black bottom.
for your second question, you can burn up to 99 minutes, any thing over will be an overburn, but make sure your drive can do this and not jst your software, cause thats whats usually messing up the disc, the fact that the drive has to force stuff on it...holla"If u cant eat it - u dont need it"
"Baby - If i dont hit it, Who will?"

When I overburn (a lot), I drop the drive speed down (from 32x to 24x), because mine is a CAV drive and the laser isn't hot enough to reliably burn the very edge of the disk. I've done 701 to 717 MB in overburn, jsut depends on the disk. There is usually a 1 MB variance from disk to disk, but a spindle is pretty much the same in it's capacity.

MikeV: What program are you talking about that can check for overburn space? Is it Nero Burning Rom or some other program that's also by Nero?
SIRCOOKS: So what you're saying is the the less light the CD shines off at the bottom the better?
Additionally, I've already stated in my first post that my drive can burn up to 99 min. But does that mean I can burn 80 min. CDs up to 99 min?
Oh and also, The capacity on the Canvell disc says 730MB, so I don't think 717MB would be considered as overburn. :P -
i am using AOpen 52X; and have succesfully overburn for just 85 minutes
the main problem using that method is the media you are using. it's true that if you're using larger capacity media, the better you will get the result -
I use Infiniti 99 min discs and have burnt up to 850 Mg with nero. If it is set up right and you use the correct discs I expect you can burn higher, I havnt yet as I havnt got a file that big as yet.
How much do you pay for discs, I use Datawrite 90 min discs myself -
Xaroxantu Zero - in answer to your question, it sounds like your burner can handle 99 minute CDs and I know Nero can burn them, but to the best of my knowledge, you can't burn 99 minutes on an 80 minute disk. There are a number of sources for 90 and 99 minute disks and I have used Nero quite successfully with both 90 & 99 minute disks. I'm pretty sure I'm using the same burner as you also.

8) Yes I use infinit 99min discs successfully too .... although my burner (mitsumi) says it will burn 99 mins it is lying it will really only do about 98mins a lot better than a 80 min cd. Overburn is referring to burning extra data beyond the stated capacity of the cd. eg a 74min CD might get an extra 2 min .. but no-one is allowing (or expecting) to burn 99 mins on a 80min cd ...normally you will get a few extra percent. Actually hitachi hasperfected a way to get 20%-30% less per cd .. although that is meant to do with hi-fi fidelity.... they extend the pits and lands of each burn... Dunno about the black bottoms CDr.
