Need a new multi format writer/reader fast. Need advice

Man i never knew there was so much to these DVD drives. I have a DVD+RW that doesnt support DVD +R -R or -RW.

Need a writer/reader thats compatible with my setup:

Winxp
Dell dimesion 8200
P 3/4(dunno) 1.9 mghz
512 ram
100HD

Want a DVD -R -RW +R +RW writer and reader for under $400

Want Internal because USB seems to take very long.

Been looking at Sony DW-U10A, Sony DRU500A, Sony DRU500AX and some others.

Biggest fear is after the purchase if it will work on my PC and the driver/update support which i read is very bad.

Waiting to hear some comments and advices before i make the purchase.

I have the Sony Dw-10A, still on original firmware.

Burned +r, +rw, -r, -rw and cd's.

No problem.

Had a couple of coasters but that was my fault.
Had no problems with drivers, I run Windows xp and have just installed sp1. Just open the case disconnect the old drive and connect up the new one. Remember to set the jumpers at the back of the drive. Mine is on Cable Select.

I am happy burning -r at x1 or x2.

I was in the US last month (Houston), Compusa had the DRU500 for around $300.

I'd go for the DRU500ax, not sure what the diff. is between the ax and the regular, but pcworod recommends the ax. You can purchase it for around $330. I did and have not burned a siingle coaster, using smartmedia 4x DVD-r's

Hi, well i went with the best they had and since they didnt have an internal writer i got me a Sony DRX-500ULX.

Had to also buy a USB2 for a faster write speed.

Installing was very easy, made one Fujifilm DVD+R (first test with a +RW) with no errors and everything seems great.

Ive yet to test the -RW & -R DVDs.

Very good writer.

Why don't you just buy one format and see if you like it. If you don't then get the other. DVD-R and DVD+R drives can be found for less than $150 each.

What do you mean? I already purchased the DVD +RW +R -RW -R writer/reader.
Why would i want just -RW, -R when i can have a grea quality writer/reader that handles all these formats in one?
