  1. Hi!

I'm getting terribly frustrated because I can't work this thing out.
I've got a divx file with the framerate 23.976 which I want to convert into a Pal 25.000.
With Avifrate I converted the framerate of the file to 25.000, but if I haven't misunderstood it all, I'll need to convert the audio as well(I read some of the guides here but they were too complicated). I tried to load the wave file(created in virtual dub) in Besweet and then checked the box saying "convert from 23.976-25.000, but after that I didn't know what to do.
Am I on the right track or is there an easier of doing this?
    Grateful for some help.

  2. Hi,

You need to use VirtualDub, works like a charm.

    1) Select NO AUDIO
    2) Change bitrate to 25 (Video Settings menu)
    3) Save as avi (Direct stream copy)

Then merge the converted wav file (the one modified with BeSweet) again with virtual dub!

(Load the 25fps converted avi with no audio and add on the audio tab tha .wav as audio source)
Then you'll have a fully converted PAL AVI.

    Bye,

    marco

Yes you are. Your new WAV should be slightly shorter (in duration) than the original. (I think it's vital that you extract the wav before changing the frame rate of the AVI but not sure on this.)
Your next step depends on what you want to do: If SVCD/VCD, you use the frame rate changed AVI as video source and the shorter wav as audio source in your encoder (TMPGEnc?)

  4. Thanks for your answers.
Do I change the audio framerate using Besweet(after I'd loaded the file into Besweet and checked the box"change framerate..." I found no button to push. Or can i use Virtual dub to change the audio framerate as well?

  5. I'm afraid I converted the divx file to 25.000 before converting the audio file. Does that make the file useless now?

As I said, I'm not sure, but to be on the safe side, just change back to NTSC, save out the audio, then set it back to 25 fps again.
There's another excellent tool for this: WavWorks. Fast and flexible, with various presets. (Do a forum search for WavWorks)

But on the whole, I've given up on frame rate conversions - my setup plays NTSC and PAL equally well, so I just go with the original frame rate and do a NTSC or PAL SVCD accordingly. Most PAL equipment handles NTSC fine - from what I've read, the other way is not as smooth!

  8. if you want to keep the pal file in divx, you can try what I just did to make sure it worked. open the file in tmpenc, set the framerate to 25 in the settings option (use the avi file as your video and audio source). Then under the file menu click save as and set the divx parameters, works like a breeze - for me.

  9. If I do this first will I then be able to convert the file to Svcd by first extracting the audio(Virtual dub) and load audio and video into TMPGENC.?

  10. here's the deal I just ran a test for you and it seemed to work. I just loaded the avi and converted to mpeg2, 25 fps and the video and audio were in synch and in mpeg2 format(svcd/dvd). So I don't even think you need the other steps, just make sure you set the right settings in tmpenc for svcd video, audio, framerate, and aspect ratio and tmpenc will do the conversion for you. I am here if you have any more questions.

  11. The reason I'm trying all this is that I need to record my converted pal video on VHS. My video recorder is old so it's not able to play NTCS. That's the background.

I'm able to change the framerate using AVIfrate, that was easy enough.
I tried to download "Wavworks", but for some reason I wasn't able to open the programme. I've tried "Be Swee" as well, and loaded the wav file(input file) and then checked the box saying "change.... to 25.000", but after that nothing happens. I find no appropriate button to push. How do I make it actually change the framerate of the audio?

One final question: If I finally succeed in changing the framerate of the audio, can I then automatically load both files directly into TMPGenc and let it encode.
Thanks for your patience with a hopeless newbie.

  12. like i just posted above if you have the original file, tmpgenc seems to make the conversion process rather easy, no need to convert the audio. if you have a short ntsc file laying around, that would be ideal to test this out for yourself. There's a reason tmpgenc does such a good job, but I can't remember why right now... I do remember having tons of headaches with Vdub and framrate conversion though..

  13. Do I save it under "output to file" and then save as avi or what.

So I make all the usual settings in TMPgENC as if it had been a normal encoding procedure(vbr etc)?

  14. if an avi then output to file

if mpeg2 svcd then set your parameters, select the file output under "output filename" on the very bottom and then JUST PRESS START. You will probably want to go into settings (at the bottom right) to make sure that under "mpeg settings" motion search precision is at the lowest quality (just to speed things up for testing purposes) Leave the bitrate at constant for now. Leave the aspect ratio at 4:3 or change it to 4:3 if it isn't and change the framerate to 25 fps. as far as resolution, you're gonna have to figure that one out (in terms of what you want, if in doubt just leave it at default, tmpenc seems to use the resolution of the source file anyway).

Leave everything in "advanced" as it is.

Under audio, if your source is 48k, make sure you leave it at 48k, unless you want to convert.

Another thing you might want to consider later, if you get this to work is to encode WITH interlacing since you want to transfer the output to vcr and your tv plays the files interlaced (this option is under "mpeg settings" in the settings tab).

WHEN all the settings are done just press start, tmpgenc will output to the file you set earlier, I hope this works for you.

  15. Thanks for all your help.
I'm afraid the whole procedure seems a bit too complicated for me, far too many settings to be made.

  16. sorry it seems complicated, let's see if this is any easier.

use your file as the video/audio source, then set the output filename. Under settings change framerate to 25 fps. exit settings and press start. This is the whole process in a nutshell. If this doesn't give you results on which to build on, then I really hope you find an easier way to convert. Sorry for the confusion and best of luck...

  17. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with your explanation, this is just quite new to me.
    I'll try your last version.

    Thanks alot.
