Is there a way to prevent DVD WorkShop from re-encoding mpg-2 compliant video files that I am working with? It seems that every time I make a DVD with mpg-2 file(s), WorkShop will still create its own mpg-2 files before creating the DVD and/or hard-disk copies. This re-encoding takes as long or longer than the intial create of the files. I use TMP-eng to create the mpg-2 files in the format I want (bit-rate, aspect ratios, etc) and find it a waste to then have WorkSop re-encode these files again.
Or else, is there something I am doing in TMP-eng that is causing the files to NOT be true DVD-mpg-2 compliant, which is why WorkShop re-encodes them?

Your problem is most likely that you are telling Workshop to create a disc that has different settings to your mpeg file.
When you get to the 'Finish' stage and you hit the 'Make Disc' option, choose 'Customize'. Enter the same bitrate that you used in TMPG, together with the appropriate audio bitrate. Workshop will skip the conversion process and go straight to creating your folders.
Hoped this helped. -
I hopefull that when next Ulead DVD Workshop comes out re-encoding issue will be resolved.

pglenn,
You didn't provide very much information about your files.
those little things like
NTSC or PAL?
Are you using 3:2 Pulldown in NTSC?
29.97 (30), 23.976 (24), or 25 fps?
720x480, 720x576, or something else?
and so on...korth -
what settings should I be using? normally I set the bitrate to whatever makes the converted file "fit" the DVD. I use 720x480, 16x9, 29.97fps... should I be setting these any particular way, or should I just do what LOZ said and just be sure that the bitrate matches?

I regularly have multiple MPEG's with different bitrates in the same Project. Provided the bitrate of the project is greater, and you check the box to tell it not to re-encode compliant files on the final screen, it does not re-encode (for me).The glass is neither half-full, nor half-empty.
It is simply twice as big as it needs to be. -
pglenn,
You asked, "Or else, is there something I am doing in TMP-eng that is causing the files to NOT be true DVD-mpg-2 compliant, which is why WorkShop re-encodes them?"
If people don't know what settings you're using, I don't understand how you can expect them to tell you if you need to do something different?
Sorry for trying to help.korth
