To start with: The DVD I made has MP2 sound and it won't work on some DVD players with only the fiber optic line hooked up. So I should have re-encoded to AC3 first. But I didn't.

    So is the following possible?

    1. De-mux VOB to video and MP2 sound. (TMPEGEnc)
    2. Convert sound to 2-ch AC3 (Besweet)

    3. Re-mux back to VOB (this is the hard step)

    4. Retain all the entry points for each menu item.

    5. Reburn VOB's and have the same video with AC3 instead of MP2 sound.

As far as I can tell, when you de-mux to MPEG2 video, you lose all the VOB information that tells the DVD menu where each menu item starts.

Anyone know how to add an AC3 track to a VOB without re-encoding?

I've looked at IFOEDIT and it seems to do a lot, but not this.

    OK,
So nobody knows how do do that. I figured out an acceptable alternative:

    1. Demux all streams in VOBEDIT - select split on new VOB-ID
    2. You get all your individual video clips back and de-muxed.
    3. Re-encode the audio to AC3 and re-mux with TMPEGEnc.
    4. Re-author and burn

Works great. No loss of video quality. Minor loss of audio quality I'm sure.

  3. Hi shardison,
    I have a few questions:
    1) does VOBEdit demux VOB files to MPEG-2 and audio files separately ?
    2) how do you re-encode audio to AC3 (tools ?)
    3) sound like TMPGenc can mux MPEG-2 and AC3 to produce VOB ? is this true ?
    Thanks

VOBEDIT demuxes VOB files to .m2v video and .mpa audio files. (I think.. might be something else.)

Use BESWEET to re-encode the audio .mpa or .mp2 files to AC3.

Use TMPGEnc to re-mux the .m2v video and new .AC3 audio files to make new .mpg video clips.

    TMPGEnc doesn't do VOB's.

Re-author (make VOB's and menus) with whatever you like. I use Video Facory 2
