  1. Hi,

Has someone found a way of estimating the resulting filesize using CQ (Constant Quality) in TMPGenc?

I know that is not possible with simple calculations because the bitrate will depend on the video file itself. I was thinking that there probably exists a program capable of reading the video file, then calculating the bitrate that CQ will use for each frame (like TMPGenc internally does) and then using that to calculate the resulting filesize.
I haven't heard of any program doing that, what do u think?

  2. Some time ago I remember talking in this forum to KWAG .
He is very knowledgeable in CQ settings.
He had a rough calculation of how many minutes you could get out of certain CQ settings (I don't have it written down any more).
If you can't find him in this forum you could try his website.

  3. Thanks wee,
I looked at KWAG's webpage, I could only find a "rule of thumb" telling you how many MB you get by modifying the CQ value. This is ok, but what I'm looking for is an 'exact' tool which reads the movie file and tells you the final size for pre-defined CQ settings. I guess it doesn't exist, but I do believe it is doable.

  4. Hi luxx,

Go back to the KVCD.Net forums and look in the file prediction forum: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=27
There you'll see how to manually get ~2% accuracy with CQ. You may want to download the program "ToK", which does this automatically for you. Go here: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=36
