  1. Short Version:

I have a HP 200j DVD+R/+RW writer and when I write to DVD+RW I get about 95% sucess rate, when writing to DVD+R I get about 20% sucess rate.

My question is, Why would DVD+RW work and DVD+R not work...

Any Ideas for me to try.....

    Long Version: (same problem)
I have HP 200j writer, Apex 1500 and Hitachi DV-PF2U Standalones.

Tried Multible media (memorex, fuji, maxwell) still same problem.
Tried writing with XCopy, Nero, and instantcopy still same problem.
(If I force Nero into UDF 1.02 it works great with the APEX but will not work with the Hitachi.)
I have made a good copy to a DVD+RW and then tried to copy it to a DVD+R and it still doesn't work (but about 20% do work, 80% does not)

    HP have been NO help.....

This problem is driving me crazy, I have already wasted about a 20 DVD+R I hope someone has sloved this problem.

Thanks a lot for any sugestions.....

  2. I have the same drive and have had good success with +R. I haven't done a extensive test but I have tried a +R copy on 5 standalones and all but 1 (very inexpensive Panasonic) worked fine. I guess that percentage is not too high but it works on my player so I didn't think it was necessary to keep testing. I think if I continued testing at a store or something that most would work.

My drive was set correctly but you may want to make sure your HP is setting DVD+R to look like DVD-ROM. I believe one of the programs that came with it will tell you this but I don't remember the name. I would recommend going to http://dvdplusrw.org to download the bit setting utility there. It does the same thing and lets you change this if needed.

    Good luck.

The latest version of Nero will let you change your book type to Dvd-rom. Use Dvd video tick ISO LEVEL 1 , tick ISO 9660 uncheck everything else & before burning tick DVD-ROM as book type. Your dvd+r should work.

  4. Thanks you your help.

I thank you, you got me on the right track to find a solution the problem was in the booktype. It seems that the HP DVD200j drive with a firmware of older that 1.51 may create a booktype of not necessary DVD-ROM or any other format, it would just create a bad disc.

This problem only occurs with DVD+R and not DVD+RW, hince the problem I was having. Funny when I contacted HP they didn't mention the firmware update to me, ah what customer service.

After 5 tries the firmware update finally took and I was able to write 2 sucessfull DVD+R's.

    Thanks again,,,,,
