  1. Hi everybody.... I have a friend coming over from the UK this summer to visit me here in Toronto, and she is going to be bringing her Camcorder with her. We are planning on making some kind of movie while she's here, using both her PAL cam corder and my NTSC cam corder.

firstly, will I be able to connect her PAL camcorder to my computer via FIREWIRE and record video??

if so, will I be able to edit both PAL and NTSC video in the same project in Adobe Premiere? or will I have to convert the PAL video to NTSC first??

    I hope that makes sense!!!

Assuming both are DV camcorders with firewire out the capturing via firewire is no problem. Remember, you don't really 'capture' DV in the traditional sense, the data is simply copied from the tape.

As for editing, I have used Premier to edit with both Pal and NTSC video clips within the same movie. However, when you finally render the movie to its final out put you have to select one format or the other. The resulting framerate conversion of parts of the movie from PAL to NTSC (or vice versa) can cause the converted sections to play a little jerkily, though premiere seeems to do a reasonable job and it could be a lot worse. Having said that I was doing NTSC film (23.97fps) to PAL. Can't comment on how well it handles TRUE NTSC framerate (29.97fps) to PAL or PAL to NTSC (29.97).

    Hope this helps
