I have copied the mpeg file on a vcd, to my computer, but it is only possible to watch it in Power DVD, and such programs.

How do I convert this file into a normal mpg file, which can be played in any player?

I have tried to open it in virtualdub, windows movie maker etc. but it doesn't work!

    Did not work...

    Any other suggestions?

The files are .mpg - I am not 100% sure they are from at VCD, but I think so since they did not work before i installed PowerDVD, and the resolution is 352x240.

I tried open a file in XMPEG, and it actually shown the image, but crashed immediately.

since you can watch a mpeg1 file BEFORE installing anything (mpeg1 reader is native to windows) and VCD's are mpg 1 files .. it may be that either they are not mpeg1 's or there is something else afoot (could even be a transport stream or a renamed file of some other type)..

check properties in power dvd and see what it says the file type is ..

get bit rate viewer and see what it says

get gspot also and see if it really is a mpeg ..

Thanks... You are realy helpful here...

In VCDEasy, i scanned the fil, with these results:

    MPEG2, PlayingTime=194.360s, Bitrate=1038400bps, PtsOffset=0491s, 11335 packets

    Video: Motion Video, 352x240, 29.97003fps (NTSC), 750kbps
Audio stream: Audio Standard MPEG layer2 Stereo, 44100Hz, 196608bps
    Warnings:
mpeg stream will be padded on the fly -- hope that's ok for you!
mpeg stream contained no scan information (user) data
autopadding requires to insert additional 3128184 zero bytes into mpeg stream (due to 11334 unaligned packets of 11335 total)
I'm still unsure how to fix this file. The movie is actually splittet in many files, in the same format.
