Just recently I was unable to create a satisfactory SVCD that would work on my DVD player. The disk had problems playing on other DVD players as well. The fast forward function wouldn't operate properly, with different results on other players. After getting to the point of giving up I tried the Ulead Plugin and all my problems were solved. All the functions worked with no kinks on my player and my other friend's players.

This plugin reminds me of Spruce in it's operation, I was able to create menus and chapters without reading a manual within 5 minutes. I kid you not this was the answer to my prayers.

This plugin also writes to a DVD-R and can create menus and chapters for VCD. For those of you who are tired to hit and miss give this Plugin a chance.

The only set back is that you need to have Media Studio Pro or Video Studio for the Plugin to operate.

Question 1: is this for standard VCD/SVCD, or is it "tweakable" for VBR encoding?

Question 2: is this freeware, or demo? Or buy first? (I have Video Studio 4, I think...)

You have to purchase the Plugin $39.95 at Ulead.com.

The DVD Plugin works great but be warned....it is for very strict compliance VCD/SVCD. I have used it with some success. I am able to make VCD/SVCD with no problems using DV/Firewire and TMPGEnc. But, I downed loaded some AVI's from the internet and even though TMPGEnc encoded them successfully and they do play in MediaPlayer, the Ulead Plugin says they are not compliant.

Also, if you want to play with resolutions and bitrates out the specification, you are out of luck with the plugin.

  5. Ulead's DVD plug-in supports X(VCD)and X(SVCD). Make sure you have the DVD Power patch applied.

I stand corrected. I downloaded the DVD Power patch and now my formerly "non-compliant" SVCD files work great. Now that the plugin has added flexibility it is truely useful. The menu creation, etc. features are extremely easy to use. If you have VideoStudio or MediaStudio, it is definitely worth the $39.

  7. DVD Plugin won't create VBR SVCD's although the SVCD Spec on the ULEAD Site and VCDHelp state that SVCD's are Variable Bit Rate.

I have successfully created a CBR SVCD but was hoping that I may get better quality using VBR. Still waiting for reply from Ulead Support.
