I was backing up my dvd's and found they would only play on about 90% of dvd standalones. This may sound stupid but i was told to use ifo edit and dont know how, can any body help me and will this solve my problem? I know it's not a problem with my media because iv'e had dvd's that play on the other10% and when iv'e copied them on to my own discs they work fine it's only when i rip and burn them my self i have this poblem. Im using smart rip dvd2one.1 and record max now (stomp) and im even closing the disc after burning.![]()

your question is not specific enough and you should of probably asked those people what they were tallking about so you would have a better idea. The only thing I can conclude would be that the movies which can be "stripped" with IFOedit and fit on a DVDR with NO transcoding must use the "GET VTS" sectors function within IFOedit. If you don't use that option in IFOEdit, then you probably won't be able to play the disk on your standalone player.
Also, media is definitely a factor. Both DVD-R and DVD+R play in the MAJORITY of DVD players. I believe Baldrick has an estimation of the different percentages on a forum on this site because I remember reading it. DVD-R is more compatitible, but DVD+R is close behind. -
If you put all the VOB files in one folder then start IFOedit and select 'create IFO's (go with the default settings) the program will sort out the IFO's for you. After it has done that you need to select the first IFO in IFOedit then at the bottom of the program select "get VTS sectors" which will correct any errors in the file structure (I believe). This results in a playable DVD file set.
The 10% that don't play could just be the media used IMO. If all your backups play on your home player/s then whats the problem? -
Sorry about the lack of info, the problem is iv'e done about 200 backup copies and iv'e recently found about 5 standalones that they dont play on. Iv'e had backup copies that i have'nt done my self before and they have worked on these standalones with no problems and even when i copy them on to my own media there seems to be no problem yet when i rip and burn my own from the origonal they dont seem to work on the small percentage of standalones am i missing something iv'e even followed sefy's guide and used smart ripper the way he says.

The problem with the other 10% is that i cant wach my backups in my girlfriends brothers or my dads so unless i travel with all my origonals im limited to were i wach them.

I know the dvd players will play dvd-r cos iv'e had backups of a friend of a friend and they work fine. Iv'e asked my friend to find out what he is doing differently but i never get an answer that will help me. I only seem to get this problem when i rip and burn myself and the video_ts folder i create includes audio. Iv'e got ifo edit and vob edit but am not to sure what im doing is it worth using these programs or would i be wasting my time. I know it's not a problem with my media and iv'e followed sefy's guide to using smart ripper, i even close the disc after burning and iv'e tried different software to burn this includes copy2dvd and stomp and i still have the same problem.HELP PLEASE

Hmm... my Guide doesn't cover DVD to DVDR, and the only section that does include a "DVDR" is with NERO Authoring, and you can see in the guide i've mentioned it is copied from another guide
I Don't recommand you use my Guide for the purpose of DVDR, since I do not own a DVD Burner, I can't test and verify for myself, when I have one myself, believe me I will add it to the guideEmail me for faster replies!

You must have folders VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS everytime as a RULE on you DVD.
When have you seen a DVD disk with only VIDEO_TS folder on its own.Keep going till you get it right!!! -
Every time i look at my VIDEO_TS folder i dont see audio_ts until i open it up that is. If you have read all of my notes you would have saw i never had a problem with this anyway iv'e sorted the problem with help from all of yous i put it through IFOedit and changed the folder to uper case and it seems its done the trick thank you all for your help now i can go asleep for the first time in a week.
