Has anyone here ever used Optodisk DVD-R disks? How are they? Are they as good as Ritek or do they suck like Princo disks?

Ritek and Princo are both crap compared to Optodisc. Just be sure to get gold-topped or blue-topped ones. Otherwise you'll get blah-quality discs like Riteks.

I've burned several hundred Optodisc to date, and placed another order for 100 just yesterday.

I've noticed that you've put down Ritek media quite a bit in other posts as well. Is there a reason that you don't like Ritek media (bad experience?), because many people here seem to love Ritek and think it high quality compared to many brands.

  5. So what's the difference between the gold-topped and blue-topped Optodiscs? One's branded, and the other's not? Same quality.

    Thanks - Mike.

Just ignore him, he puts down any disc that does not have a coating on time. That seems to be his only reason. He claims that they rot or something, but thats not true. It is true that they are less durable and can be scratched more easily, but if you handle it correctly, it should be fine.

I have tried Optodisc 4X DVD-R media, burning a full disc on my Pioneer A05 and Sony 500A with less then 15mins now

I have problem with Ritek 4X media on my Sony 500A, it only burn 1X. They suggest me to update the latest firmware, but I know I will lost the 2X for all function!!! So Optodisc is my only choice now, beside they work good!

    Anyone try Princo 4X DVD-R ??

  8. Yes, I have tried both Ritek (1X) and Optodisc (1X), 6 coasters out of 100 for Ritek (3 due to scratches, 3 due to software problem), no coasters for OptoDisc yet.

  9. I just recieved 100 of the gold-topped Optodisc from Rima. 5 coasters right off the top. And that was after successful test burns. Pissed me right the hell off. Anyway, Rima gave me an RMA and they're going back, going for the printable Samsung BeAll's they carry.

Don't monkey around with cheapoid media. Spend the $1.40+ a pop and get something quality.

Where are you finding 4x Optodiscs?

All I've seen are 2x Optodiscs (that require a 105 with firmware upgrade). Thanks.

  12. I just bought a stack of 50 gold topped optodiscs. I've noticed that during some parts(for about 2-3 secs) of the movie, the sound crackles a bit. Probably something wrong with the glue. Good discs overall though.

I bought a package of blue topped Optodiscs. Burned 14. Had one coaster. Two others in the package(on top) have scratches. Bought an Optodisc whitetop DVD-RW. It's useless it won't record the data, at all. Used nero, Decrypter(Iso) and DVDXcopy. No scratches or visible defects on it.

  14. I burned 1800 Princos and had 10 coasters because of USB2.0 problems. They load a little slow on the set tops but otherwise they are fine. I like Riteks better they load up right away. Used about 500 and 5 were bad burns again they were USB2.0 problems. Tried Opti disk.... don't know only used 2 but they seem too do the same as Princos load slow. BTW they are all 1xs burn at 2xs on A05s, A04, A03 with firmware upgrades.

  15. I have had some optodisk 1x that I thought would burn 2x in my sony... and up until 2.0e firmware that was true. The latest firmware gets bad reviews but so far it has been the best for me. I just got my 4x opto's that are gold topped and say certified, They also come in jewel cases. these burn at 4x with no porblems... I bought them for 1.07 at meritline...

I also have ritek 4x that only burns at 2x on my sony dru500, I have tried every bios I can find including 1.0e,f and 2.0e all burn great at 2x but no 4x... I only bought 10 of the new 4x i think I will buy 100 more ....

Much as it hurts to admit it I'd have to say at this point that the Optodisc are better then riteks. If you haven't check out the testing I did on a few different medias. http://www.crystalmidnight.com/dvdtest

However I'd still use Riteks in a heart beat.

  17. just beginning, but i've burned 100 ritek G03's and no coasters yet. used to use only Verbatim 2x exclusively until my budget started getting tight. Tried the riteks from Rima.com and haven't been let down.

    just my experience

Oh I agree, Riteks are great, I've burned hundreds of them, but the Optodisc are technically a better disk on readback. Of course the results with different DVD players I haven't tested yet. Just read back quality on my Liteon DVDrom.

  19. Optodiscs seem to be very picky regarding the drives they will work with. It works fine on my apex 1500 and pioneer dvd-r drive, but skips on my GE dvd player and my friends hp dvd-rom drive. I would stick to riteks or accu's.

I have burnt in excess of 500 blue-top optodisks.
The only coasters I got were due to my own stupidity. Not the media.
In reply to ROBERT BLACK. I too purchased some opto white top RWs.
Completely incompatable with my pioneer 105.
If you are burning with a pioneer, try the maxell dvdrws.
    They seem to work fine.
