    Hi all-

Alright, I've been working on this for a little while:

    http://thegoods.ath.cx/~hmason/subtractor/subtitle-conversion-test-0.1.1.dmg [New version! See Below]

Basically, it's a tool (well, a couple tools) for converting DVD subtitles to real text subtitles. Instructions/information are included. It probably will have problems. I'm curious what everyone is able to do with it. If you get a chance to try it out, feel free to report your results here.

One important note: If you use 0SEx and rip your VOB with ONLY the subtitle track you want and NOTHING else, everything will go much faster, and you will waste less disc space. Take my word for it, you want to do this.

    Couple pictures:

  2. This is exactly what I've been looking for.

    Now, a quick question...

Can I use the resulting file in DVDSP ?

Is that how simple the format is? I might be able to slip a this feature in, in that case.

  10. Wow !

That was quick, I'm at work right now (windowzzz) so I can't try it out just yet ... but I'll bet it will work just fine.

    Just one question for'ya though.
Is it possible to use it as a converter aswell ?
I mean loading a srt and then saving it as a DVDSP txt file ?

Hrm...good idea, but no, not yet. At some point I'd like to add a third module that will be be Subtitle script editor and importer/exporter, and then combine all three sub-programs into one big one. This is essentially what Windows users have with SubRip, and I think it works pretty well. 8)

That sounds like a great idea! After getting DVD2oneX, SubRip is currently the only reason I have for keeping the dreaded Virtual PC on my HD...

  13. Sounds you have it all planned out ...

I agree with 'the future', it's the only real reason I still VPC.

    Nice work btw.

I started to test the whole process but stopped when I encountered the first bug (?), namely that in ReSUB when you are prompted to enter the missing character in the Terminal it is not accepted when you type in 2 characters - even if this would be correct. It seems that ReSUB reads for example "ff" as one character, doesn't recognize it but still expects it to be ONE character and won't accept it when you type "ff" in the Terminal.

From experience with SubRip on VPC I remember that there was quite often the case where the app would read two chracters as one and thus not recognize them and need a manual correction. SubRip did accept two characters two be entered, though.

I tested ReSUB on the region 2 disc "As good as it gets" (PAL).

I hope you can fix this!

Actually, you can type two characters, but you need to quote them. So type "ff" with quotes.

OKAY! Tried it now the right way + it works like a charm! I had no problem to import the file ReSUB produced in Subtitle Editor and to import the file that Subtitle editor produced in DVDSP. Au revoir, SubRip + Virtual PC!

    Two minor problems, though:

Sometimes when the Terminal prompts you to enter characters the OCR didn't recognize it does so 2 or 3 times in a row, so the second and third time you have to guess the missing character from the terminal window alone because the ReSUB window still shows the subtitle with the first character ReSUB didn't recognize.

Plus the 'no spaces recognized' problem occured quite often and gets a little annoying.

Apart from that: congratulations for this fine little programm!!
