  1. I have an asynch svcd and wanted to try to fix it using womble's mpeg2vcr... I got it and when I went in to the mulitplex tools and loaded up my mpeg, I hit the av-sync button... however the test button is not active (greyed out) so i have no idea how to match them up.... does anyone else have this program and have a solution

I dont even recall there being a test button on that program but its been a while since I used it. I always set it at a random point and started the mux and stopped it at like %5 and checked it and just did trial and error. But I really think you might be going about this the wrong way.

Are you sure its actually desynced? If you captured it or had to change the framerate at anytime than it may be async but if its a proper dvdrip than the sync should be correct. Remember your pc and your dvd player use different mechanisms to maintain sync. What you should try first is to demux in TMPGenc and then remux in bbmpeg. If you arent using bbmpeg to mux svcds then your files most likely are not compliant, which explains the desync. After muxing in bbmpeg try burning it on cdrw if possible. chances are it will play correctly on your dvd player. If not mux in bbmeg again with allign sequence headers turned off and add svcd scan offsets turned off and try again. If its still async you should try to re-encode the audio from the original source if possible. Also you should be playing your mpeg2 files in a software dvd player not media player.

  3. Thanks for the reply, Adam... its from a dvd rip... I've noticed that in ripping old dvds, there is often a studio logo that has no audio on playback, but for some reason, dvd2avi misinterperts this and starts the audio from the very begininng instead of the delay for the studio logo. I've only noticed this on the Bound dvd and the Usual Suspects dvd... maybe some others have had this problem...

anyways, in the av-sync tab in mpegvcr from womble, they have the space to set up your audio off set... naturally, i don't want to guestimate and would like to be able to use this tool in the future, but i don't know how you could do it unless you could actually have a preview to sync with... I know sefy has recommended this program to others for sync problems so if you read this sefy, maybe you have a suggestion.

dvd2avi is known to cause desync issues but it doesnt happen to often. Still there are much better ways to extract your audio which will preserve the sync better. Personally I use graphedit and use the intervideo decoder but there are several other methods as well. You should try looking at http://www.doom9.net for other extraction methods.

I know it sounds like a pain but its not difficult to sync it through trial and error. Just let it mux for like 30 secs and then test. It has never taken me more than 5 mins to resync any mpg in mpeg2vcr. Dont forget that you can adjust the intervals that the slider uses. The default setting causes too drastic of a change, you need to fine tune it more because its rare that your mpg is ever THAT out of sync.

Oh one more thing. Using smartripper or vstrip you can rip your movie by chapter so that there is no studio logo at the start. This should make it less confusing for dvd2avi.
