  1. I know this problem has happened to other people, but I have yet
to see a situation with the exact same problem as I am running into.

    I have a P4 2.43Ghz, 512M RAM pc running Win2k AS.
I have an 80G HD for my installs, a 120G HD for the video capture that I have to do.
The motherboard is a VIA_P6 w/ AMI Bios. Disabled onboard video and sound w/ a Creative Labs Audigy card and the ATI card.

I have installed, removed and re-installed all the ATI drivers for Win2k
several times (from old, CD and online driver sets) with the same
results each and every time. DirectX 9 & MMC8.01 currenty installed.
I have also made the suggested BIOS changes listed on this site.

    Now...the problem:
I am trying to use Vegas VidCap to capture, but every time I start the cap app, I get the errors:
    "Please Connect to a Device:
    then
    "Preview is Off"

Now, I can try to connect to a device, but no change.
Plus...the kicker is, that I can actually SEE the ATI Rage Theatre Video Capture name in the selection list, but it refuses to be selected.

I have tried to use other capture apps, but get the same results, so it is not a Vegas issue.

I am stumped...any help would be greatly appreciated.
(Sorry for the long post though)

You updated the VIA drivers as well I assume? Since I use an ASUS board with Intel chips (ATI seems to like those best), I've never had problems like that even when I switched to a new OS (Win XP). I had to set the recording input parameters different from the Win 98SE version (Record Master rather than Aux In) to get sound recording but the video is good. I'm thinking it's probably something simple though like a board driver update that's causing the problem. Sorry I can't be of more help...

  3. Actually, I am in the process of getting updated board drivers.
I appreciate any suggestions at this time though.

I suggest April 2003 drivers and the ATI MMC 7.7 (8.x has issues).

ATI won't help you either with your issues. Only MMC is supported, and it works fine. You're on your own with other stuff. Good luck to you though. Hope it works out.

Look into updating VIA too as suggested.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  5. Ok...
I have now updated all my drivers (from the motherboard up to the ati card and Win patches) and still no luck.

I have even installed the older MMC drivers that were recommended.
I am still at a loss...
I can see the capture card listed, but I cant select it.
If anyone has had this problem and solved it...please let me know how.

    Thanx for the help.

ATI hasnt answered my last e-mail in days either.

ATI cards has two types of video capture available to you. One is the driver based on the "Video For Windows Capture" and the other is based on a driver optimized for "DirectX v8 and OpenGL" which uses the DirectShow Capture. When first released there was only the VFW capture available. Later with the advent of Windows and it's more powerful built in multimedia support, ATI switched it's design efforts to that platform concentrating on drivers that could take advantage of the new Directx and OpenGL. There's a big difference between the two drivers.

  7. To Rond66:

Thanx...I will try these drivers as well.

At this point I am about to give up.
I purchased a Dazzle 150 USB peripheral, but honestly, the capture quality was horrible compared to what I had done with the AIW 7500
    on my old pc.
