  1. I just built a new computer and installed Windows XP. Trying to use SpruceUp but i can't get it to work. When i import a M2V video file with either a MP2 audio or AC3 File i get an error message saying "MEDIA DETECTION ERROR". Has anyone seen this error? or does it work with WinXP?

Also when i did get it to accept these files, I tried to playback during authoring and the program kept crashing.
Any help woulld be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  3. Works fine for me. Altho I have to change my m2v extention to wav. Is the file you are importing Captured? Ripped? ? ?
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

  4. You must leave your m2v file as is and change the mp2 to mpa. I have Spruceup in a couple of computers with XP that work fine for making title sets, not for burning. I also have it in a sony with giga pocket. In the sony it will not show the preview but it will still make the title set. Power DVD also has some problems in that same sony.

  5. I now am able to import the files. I forgot i had changed the compatability mode to Win98 becuase i was having trouble with playback. I changed it back to it's default WinXP and they are importing fine.

But, the program still crashes anytime i try to playback while authoring. I hear a little bit of sound then it crashes. This did not happen with Win2K. I need to have playback so that i can hear where i'm placing my chapter points. The error is from WinXP error report Spruce Up MFC Application

When i import a MPA (not MP2 as i mentioned before) audio file along with the M2V video file, my file properties show MPA for audio and M2V for Video. When i import a AC3 audio file along with the M2V video file, my file properties show nothing.

All 3 files play correctly seperately with no problem at all on WMP and WinDVD as well as Ravisent.

I'm using captured files with VDub (Huffy codec) and encoding with Tmpgenc. Then i'm demuxing to M2V and MPA files. I am also using Besweet to convert the MPA file to AC3.

  6. That is the same error that I get on that sony w/giga pocket when I try to play or preview the movie in Spruceup. I thought it was caused by sony's copyright protection bullshit but that must not be the case. If you figure it out please post the cure, I will do the same.

  7. One last thing i forgot to mention. When i look through SpruceUp help section it seams to gear torwards a display issue. I am running it at 1024 by 768 and true color (32 Bit). I also changed them around a bit to no avail.
Hardware accelerator was also changed around to no avail. However, when i brought it to half way, the program did not crash but also did not play still. ANY IDEAS?

  8. I hope i'm not talking to myself. I just found out that the system also hangs up when simulating as well as playback. I did make a title set and that worked without a problem. It's obviuosly just a playback issue.
Maybe a codec or something. I also tried updating DirectX to no avail.

  9. My SpruceUp also errors out on me if I tried simulate option. Never figured it out.

  10. Me too.
I've just updated froom ME to XP and I get the same (crash on simulation playback and can't import AC3 audio).

  14. As I stated in an earlier post, I have my copy of Spruceup in several computers running XP. Some have P4 and some have Athlon processers.
All except one of them work very well for making title sets (burn w/nero).
The one that has a problem with Spruceup playback (preview, etc) is a Sony w/giga pocket recorder. That computer also has a problem with Power DVD's latest upgrade. I saw a Sony patch on some Italian website to cure the Power DVD problem but I can't seem to find it again. I have a feeling that patch will fix both problems (Spruceup and Power DVD) if I can find it again. So if Spruceup won't work it's an XP problem, not a Spruceup problem. In my humble opinion, that is. ............. harrymj3

  15. Yes, I agree it is a WinXP problem.

Now that I have tried something else (Vegas Video) I don't think i'll go back to SpruceUp. Vegas makes SpruceUp look like a toy in my opinion. You can do alot more with Vegas even encode. The only reason I was using SpruceUp was because of AC3 support and there weren't many out there at the time that would actually work, except for the big guns Like Scenarist and Maestro which i will soon be getting into.

The playback and simulation features that are now not working with SpruceUp and WinXP mean alot in authoring to me. I need to hear where I am placing my chapters.

Good luck in finding the fix, if I see or hear anything, I'll let you know.

  16. If you save your project before you open the clip properties you will have better luck. Also save your work often as your project proceeds. Good luck . .......... harrymj3
