    My original post :

Has anyone updated firmware A105 to A107 or A108 on Win2k succesfully?
If so - please post details. I tried update it to A107 months ago (no luck) and now with new A108 I get half thru :9

UPDATE: Well here is the solution
(hopefully it will be useful to someone else):
Before running firmware update disable UDMA (in other words: switch it to PIO mode) on the IDE channel where LG burner is connected, reboot. That's all

    UPDATE2:
Few people ask me for A108 firmware. With my hotmail email account I cannot send large attachments, sorry.
But HERE is probably best link to firmwares for this (and other) drive.

ok, I have a question regarding this drive.

I have one that cam in my gateway 700, how do I check what firmware version it has? What are the advantages of updating the firmware on this unit?

    Thanks...

vric: thanks for the info... didn't know nero did that also... guess it would help to read the manual....

It said that I had A105 version... so, found the A108 version and with the advice from the original poster, did a flawless firmware upgrade on it....

.... dug out my cd from Pioneer and did the A04 drive as well... took that one from 1.2 to 1.4

anyways, just wanted to thank you for the help....

The only difference I notice is that cheap princo 1x are now easily burnt at 2x, alas before (with A105 firmware) about half of them never burnt at this speed (especially Nero always insisted for 1x speed).
    But please note I never had A107, I upgraded A105 to A108.

  8. My burner came already with A107 and I just burned a number of cheap 1x DVD-R(Princo, Optodisk) successfully at 2x. Well so far, I'm pretty impressed with how the GMA-4020b is handling cheap media (knock on wood). I guess I'll wait til someone can confirm what is improved in A108 from A107...
