  1. I have burned a few DVD's and I have bought some of the black dvd cases. There is a clear plastic sheet around that will allow you to make a cover.

Is anyone aware of a easy software to do this.. or a trick? There doesnt seem to be any templates.. that I have found. Its just small enough to be difficult to wing something in ms word or excel?

I used a ruler and measured the dimensions of a commercial insert. I then created my own template in Photoshop, and be artsy to my heart's desire. I have a Canon inkjet printer that can print in high detail and boarderless (which is needed), then use a pair of scissors to trim the final product.

  4. I created a template in MS Publisher. Tried Word, but had to keep resizing. I would print out 3 copys before it was right. Then import next pic, and print 3 more copies. Publisher works great.

All I do is scan image at 200dpi and open in PhotoShop and print at original size. Unfortunetely my printer is not borderless so I have to use legal paper.
You can get a tonne of covers online as well. They are not proper size but a simple resize in Photoshop keeping aspect ration locked will solve that.

  6. you can also try media face at www.fellowes.com. I think the 2.4 version may be free. It has a template for a DVD cover & they also sell paper templates for CD's, dvd,s, etc. (under NEATO brand) - which is why they want you to have their s/w since it matches their templates. No reason why you couldn't print the dvd cover on blank paper & trim.

One thing which I don't like about their template is that the font and back covers and spine are three separate 'layers' (not really but kinda) so that if you want one picture to span all 3 then you need to cut & paste it in 3 times then align them - nearly impossible. If you want separate front back & spine, then this feature would really help you.

The other thing I can never seem to figure out is once the picture goes 'under' the template (criteria not clear) sizing and movement seem to be a little more diffiicult.

Overall, this s/w has some very good features though -worth checking out.

  9. am looking at fellowes - the 4.x version is actually much better than the 2.4 and has a # of preset DVD cover templates - may be $20 though (w/ some labels)...
