  1. i've jsut started to get really into DVD-R, i'm using DVD-Decryptor (on file mode with all files selected) for ripping and then DVD2One for processing and reproducing the VIDEO_TS.

I then use the current version of NERO for burning.

What i would like to know is, should my pc 1st'ly be doing nothing during the ripping process to ensure a good tranisition between DVD to HDD, and again whilst processing and finally during burning, even though the burner is burnproof.

My last few DVD's have had stutters in them, Changing Lanes, Dog Soliders etc. Some players they work great and others have problems, what am i doing wrong.

I've changed from burning as DATA ISO to DATA UDF/ISO, reason for this was that i noticed my burnt ones had a filesystem of CDFS rather than UDF like an orginal DVD.

Any tips for a newbie would be great, please no suggestions of installing pinnicle, one step at a time and i'm not fussed about loosing the features providing i get the DD5.1 and DTS sound tracks.

    Cheers

  2. Yes don't do anything when encoding or burning.

    Burn on a low speed.

    Try different media.

You say your files stutter, is this after you burn.

Do they play okay on your pc ?
    If it's wet, drink it

What media are you using? That can make a big difference.

I use my computer while ripping and re-encoding.....I usually leave it alone for burning though. Using your computer will not hurt the copying or re-encoding process.
I have even run smart ripper and DVD2one at same time. No problems.

Yes, don't do anything while doing anything DVD related.

May just be the players are not Compatible with DVDR disks.
<-----look over here under OTHER, DVD Players Compatabillity.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

  5. i never checked them to be honest mate, should of really, it hard though as i can't really sit and watch a whole film etc.

Also i am ripping on a DVD-CDRW Combo drive, would i be better off using a normal DVD-ROM

Burning i have had a Java application which can be CPU hungry, might have to move the burner out of my server and burn over lunch time etc.

Burner only works a 1speed got it when they were new out.

Media wise they are Imation Disks as work buys them in bulk, seem fine on our standalone DVD Writer (panasonic jobbie)

Also could it be the machine i rip on, i use 2 as it depends on if i'm at work or at home, home is an XP Pro, P3 500 750meg of ram, work is a P4 2000 with 500 meg of ram.

Just thinking if DVD2One is better ran on the P4 then i'll only rip at home and bring the 9gig files into work to encode.

    Cheers

For ripping either machine is good and should run at 5X and more on avg.
For re-encoding your home machine is low on CPU power......
I don't see how you can transfer files from work to home though. The files are in excess of 4 GB.

When using smartripper it tells you the speed the files are being ripped at.
I avg. approx. 6X but have been down at 2X and high as 11X.

For the amount of time it takes to transfer files from one machine to the next you would probably save time just doing it on one machine. I am not sure how long the re-encode takes on your home machine but I doubt it is more than 45mins. On your work machine it probaly takes less than 20mins. If possible.....stick with the work machine obviously.

So going back to your original question.

Because your home machine is underpowered. I would recommend re-booting before you start re-encoding just to clear everything.....it can make a difference and it may not. Depends if some of your programs are not releasing memory and are using CPU.

I would also recommend not using your computer at all at home when re-encoding.
