  1. Hey.. I'm desperately looking for a progie that will convert vcd/svcd/dvd mpeg format videos to Mpeg4 format. I need the mpeg4 format for my cell phone. I am utilizing a 128mb Memory DUO stick with the phone so think I have enough for a 20 minute clip in Mpeg4 format. I ran into a progie that will squeeze Mpeg4 files (Sorenson), but it seems like most progies will only convert from avi to mpeg4. Tempenc states that it supports mpeg4, however, I couldn't find anything any there that supported that statement. Any help is appreciated.

Try Virutal Dub Mod or VirtualDUbMPEG2 (tool section)
Open the video, select MPEg4 codec and start saving..

Isn't sorenson a codec for QUICKTIME movies?
How could you use Sorenson with mpg FILES?
    dON'T THINK ITS POSSIBLE

also..3 kinds of MPEG-4 exist that I knowof (at least)
    1. MPEG-4 by apple this will not play on windows except in the quicktime player (extension MP4)
    2. DIVX this kind of mpeg-4 has an .avi file extension
    3. Microsoft's MPEG-4 or files with .asf or .wmv extension..will not play on mac

  5. I know Sorenson will not except mpg.. Actually I stated that specifically in my post.. As to the format, this is for use on a Sony Ericsson cell phone. So the actual video is played on a Symbian OS machine which accepts MP4s. I have quite a few video including feature length stuff, but it all has come from .avi files. The issue I face is going straight from mpeg1 or mpeg2 to mpeg4. Thanks for the leads so far.. Virtualdub has had some issues with mp4s by the way.. The main issue has been with video/audio sync.
