DVD2ONE and programs like it convert DVD to DVD-R very well. I still like to make SVCD's,any chance of a one step program like DVD2ONE to create SVCD? I've used DVD2ONE and DVd95COPY to create SVCD but the resulting bitrate is too high for most DVDplayers.

  2. How about rip the DVD to HD as a single MPEG file (large), can be done easy if you know the settings.
Then use movie factory to get as close to one step for SVCD encoding, creation and burning.

    Remember
Easy is not always fast or the highest quality.

  3. DVD2SVCD (http://dvd2svcd.doom9.net) might be a good choice. It's a frontend program to run TMPGenc or CCE. Ie. takes a lot of time.

If time is an issue set the output size in DVD2ONE to 800MB (or 1600MB), this should lower the bitrate enough to work as an xSVCD on most players.

    Wulf,
You ever consider DVDx2.2? One step, good results, fast, (2 hour movie to XVCD, maybe 3 hours, XSVCD, maybe 4 hours, set it to number of disks you want to fill up, bump the bitrate to fill the second, third disk.
I used to use it all the time. The only 1 I could get to work, till I studied and got some pointers.
I still like it, and time wise, might start using it again. TMPGenc and CCE both take too long, for me.
Course, you don't have to be a guru, so maybe too basic for you.

Just used DVD2SVCD for the first time last night. 6 hours to rip, convert and create disk images. I used TMPGEnc 2-pass VBR for the encoding part, if you used CQ or CBR it would be closer to 3 1/2 hrs. You might need 1 more disk that way though.

I was amazed at the ease of use and the quality of the product putting 115 minutes on to 2 disks.

    ZippyP,
How do you get 6 hours for a 2 hour movie? With TMPGenc, I get more like 10 hours, 2 pass VBR. With CCE, I get the same, mebbe a little longer, 4 pass VBR. I've been hearing some others saying near real time. I doubt it.
DVDx is invariably 3 to 2, XVCD, 4 to 2, XSVCD. It's why I am seriously thinking of going back to it. The quality is more than adequate for me.
I am using an AMD 1800XP, 512 RAM, 200 gig HD space. Not an inadequate machine.

Here's a tip to speed up TMPGEnc 2-pass encoding.

Under Options>Environmental Settings>CPU, select cache setting for 2-pass and make it 4 GB (4096 MB). Make sure you have that amount free and it will cache the first pass, which greatly reduces the time for the second pass. Lops about 1/3 off encoding time.

    ZippyP,
I didn't select that, but it did write about 15 gig to my default folder, so I kinda get the idea that it assumed it had the room to cache the first pass. I don't know that. I just assume it. I'll give it a try the next time.
Thanks. Let you know if it speeds it up.

Damn, I must be doing something wrong.... I never got DVD2one to either RIP the DVD or to burn to DVD-R, so it still takes me 3 steps with DVD2One.....

  11. Checkout programs at www.kvcd.net

Use CQ with TMPGenc or 1-pass VBR with CCE.

With my Celeron 1200, I can do DVD2SVCD with CCE in about 5-6 hours.
