  1. Does anybody know anything about the DVD to CDR software Replicant. Does it really work ? How does it work ? Is the quality any good?

My dad got an ad in his email today and asked me to check it out to see if it was any good. I really donīt buy it. You have to stop and think: What is the quality going to be like if encoders like TMPGEnc or CCE deliver near-DVD or DVD-like quality and these are programs that have been around for a while ironing out bugs? One thing that really stands out is their claim that you can copy DVDs exactly onto a CDR. VCD specs do not allow for things like motion menus or highlights so my argument is to either keep making X(S)VCDs and be happy with that or wait until DVD writer prices go down if that is what youīre waiting for because thatīs $50 Iīd rather invest towards that.

    Imagine this.

Replicant is a gui loader interface which walks you through Smartripper,DVDx,vcdeasy and a couple of other free apps.

    Still want to buy it?
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

    PS: To my previous comment.

Don't get fooled if you go to their site and press more info and they tell you about a converzion program to copy vhs etc.... its a tutorial and a copy of tmpgenc. Since they are claiming to convert to DVD I wonder if they are paying for the right to use the mpeg2 encoder which is not freeware?

Of course as best as I could tell none of this is mentionned on the site which by the way is not too badly designed.
