  1. I am a bit confused with what to use on my videos.

I have stuff captured from my miniDV camcorder and I have MPG1 videos off the net. What should I be converting to?

Does it matter if it is cartoon footage or not?

  2. It depends on what you wanna do with them. You can leave the mpeg1 clips alone provied they are 352x240ntsc or 352x288 pal. Then for DVD make sure audio is at 48000khz, or for vcd44100khz. As of the AVI files if you wanna go DVD convert to Mpeg2 audio at 48000, You have your choice of sizes I'll list in NTSC 720x480, 704x480,352x480,and 352x240. For SVCD 480x480 mpeg2 audio 44100, and vcd mpeg1 Audio 44100 352x240. If you wanna make xvid and dvix and such I got no idea not only have I never made one, I've never even seen one.

Interlace is only available on MPEG2 files and some DivX.

DV AVI is progressive, and MPEG1 is not interlaced.

If you capture from TV, YES! Absolutely capture interlace, else there will be motion problems and quality deterioration. The source was interlaced.

But if you are converting downloaded stuff, 99% of those file are non-interlaced. You cannot put back what has already been taken away. So just leave it as non-interlaced.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  4. Ok so you can capture in either interlace or non-interlace. I will check my capturing program(s) to see if they have that option. (My capturing programs available are Premiere, Pinnacle and ScenAnalyzer)

Now, I capture from TV interlaced. Fine. I burn interlaced. Good.

Now, I have my footage from my miniDV, capture in what format?

When converting formats (i.e. DV to say DVD or (S)VCD), can I convert from interlaced to non-interlaced, or vice versa?

As a rule of thumb, when burning to DVD, should I make all videos interlaced?
